If the revs go to normal when the car hits normal temp then all is good. mine is a 2.2 d4d when very cold like now -5 it will rev very high as it warms up it will drop too 1000 revs as it hits normal temp it drops

to normal revs as it is so cold it does take a little while to warm up but not as long as my ford transit that takes for ever to get warm.

To ducis,

You don't have a problem, to my knowledge nearly all D4D's when started from cold have a raised idle speed (mine sits at 1200rpm) especially if you turn heater motor on. If you turn heater off it should drop idle speed to around normal idle 800rpm?
