Stiff Soft Top

Hi ,

I am new to this site and to the MR2 Roadster, i have previously owned a Honda crx del sol the hard top convertable with the electric roof butt i smashed that before xmas, i have found an mr2 roadster and i think i have fallen in love with it. I test drove one yesterday it's an 01 plate with sequntial gear box, however when the man pulled the roof down it was very stiff and looked really tricky. I just wondered if anyone had any advice for me as to if this is a usual problem also he wants £4k for it and i wondered if thats a good price. i tried a mazda mx5 today but i don't think it's a patch on the MR2 i am just a bit worried about the gear box and the roof.

Hi and welcome to the club D

As far as the soft top goes I wouldn't worry too much, the only thing it will be is this cold weather ;)

I have had mine for six years and it does exactly the same if I try to lower it in these temperatures, the best bet is to go for a run and after the heater has warmed things up it should go down a lot easier, in summer when the roof is hot they fold VERY easy

cheers for that i did read your post before a became a member looked at all the pics to i think thats what sold me lol. have you ever had a problem with your gear box is it the sequential one?

No mines the manual five speed, I must admit to not knowing a great deal about the sequential ones but if you have a test drive with a sequential, make sure it is well up to temperature and it changes all the way up and down the gears without any problems.

my roof has always been a bit stiff, except when it is scorchin hot outside! also your not supposed to put the roof down when its wet/damp.
