Hi, just looking at buying a high mileage (over 100k) T Sport VVTL-i 2002 (think it's just pre-facelift, UK car). It runs well, checks out OK, etc but when it hits 7000rpm it misses .. I don't believe it has been serviced for about 10,000 miles, so it could be something simple but any thoughts anyone?

Thanks, Peter

They wont rev past 7000 when the engines cold. Never drive one that hard when its cold. Water temp must be at 60

Could be a worn/broken Flange Bolt, these will inhibit Lift until replaced, and were upgraded on the face lift. Proceed with caution, a face lift with the darker Fascia will be a better buy IMO.

Thanks for your replies - much appreciated.

The car had been sitting ticking over for 5-10 mins before we took it out, I could not take the car far as it wasn't insured (no I didn't say that). The heater was blowing hot, so the water around the engine must have been heated though probably the oil was only warm.

It sounded fine apart from that, despite its 125,000 miles.

What do you mean by the MAF ?

Are the flange bolts straight forward to replace?

Thanks again,

Peter

MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor

Flange or Lift Bolts as they are also called are relatively easy to replace, there are two and they only cost a few pence each.

Whereabouts in S. Derbys are you Peter?
