Hi can anyone help !!!

I have a 4 year old Rav 4 Diesel . Warranty has just expired and my clutch has gone.

Managed to get local garage to replace for around £300. Now he tells me that the flywheel has gone and thats gonna cost abt £800 including labour.

Does anyone know if this can be bought cheaper or can I put in a second hand one ? Im skint

Help please

Hello there, unfortunately if the clutch has gone and the DMF, then £1100 is about the going rate for an independent to do it, I know, just been bitten myself!

Try Toyota Dealer and it'll be getting on for £2k, sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Regards Dave

I did my own it cost a total of about £650.00 Time consuming but not too hard if you like mechanichal DIY

I bought my parts from eBay. £550 the rest was for other stuff like oils and bits of tooling.

Don't by second hand. It's not worth it.

Get your vehicle to a Toyota garage! You say you're vehicle is 4 years old.....are you aware that Toyota UK extended the DMF flywheel and clutch problem to 5 years warranty and either 50 or 60, 000 miles? Can't remember the exact figure for the max milage.

Good luck!

That was five years from 2002 so came to an end in 2007. The mileage was 60 000. so unfortunately you are outside of both as Mr T reportedly modified the DMF post 2002. Or have I understood this totally incorrectly.

No it is correct.

However, we have heard of a few owners that have gone to a Toyota dealer and still got some or all of the costs paid well outside of the warranty period. In some cases it seems to be worth a try.

My post 2002 already modified DMF on a 53 plate went last year (2008) and Toyota agreed to supply the parts and I had to pay the labour. The labour bill, if I remember correct, was £500 which is cheaper than the £800 the OP has a quote for.

Every case is taken on it's own merits at Toyota. A decision is taken on age, mileage, service history etc etc. There is no blanket policy in place, You just never know, it is always worth asking, you then have to make a decision on having it done at a dealer or an independant
