Annoying Beeps

Is there any way of disabling/silencing the annoying beeps that I get whenever I switch off the engine and take the keys out? It's as though I'm being reminded to lock the car up. It's on a 98 Corolla 1.6 CD

I can see why the key in warning sound is irritating but it could save you money on that one occasion you fill up, forget to take your keys out (because the beep is disabled), get the car nicked on the forecourt and the insurance refuses to pay up because the keys were left in

Not a common event I'll grant you but partly what the beep is for ;)

No, this happens only after I've taken the keys out. Perhaps it's a reminder that I've finished driving and need to get out of the car :)

The only time mine beeps after I've taken my keys out is if I leave the lights on and open my door - when I close my door it stops. It couldn't be related to that could it - perhaps whatever senses the lights are on is playing up.

Thanks for that, but the beep for leaving the lights on is a totally different one, a continuous sound. This is a series of 4 quick beeps, repeated 3 times.

Do you have an alarm?

My Clifford alarm on my Yaris used to do something similar and the beeps were to indicate if there was an error and what the error was on.

I've also seen after-market stereos do this as a reminder to remove the face plate. Its not that is it?
