Hi

My wife has had this nasty bug for around three weeks now, the docter says its virul, so antibiotics won't touch it.

I am usually the one in my familly that suffers perenially with these bugs, as i am asthmatic, however so far this year " touch wood " i have managed to steer clear.

During the summer i was seeing a consultant specialist, to do with arthritis, as i also suffer from that condition as well, the consultant recommended a supplement that i could take to help with my arthrits, its called ROSE HIP, however it has other propertys as well as easing athritic pain it also boosts your immune system as its rich in vitamins A C & E, wether or not its stopped me getting a bad cold or flu, i can only speculate, i have been taking it since september.

The downside is that its expensive, i paid £20 for 120 capsules ( 750mg ) from Holland & Barrett, approx one months supply.

However if you feel you want to give it a try , you can find out about it by Googling , ROSE HIP ( rosa canina )

Its good that you have an understanding boss , i hope you get well soon

Hi, I dont know many people who havent had it! I had it over christmas and it was not good!! It also seems to come back a second time in quite a few people, sorry for that. I have also heard that the cough can last upto 10 weeks after the flu has gone. Cheers

I'm with chest infection (nice chewy green bits coming up! TMI!! ), throat and wooly head brigade.

Saw the doc yesterday and gave me the Anti-Biotics. Feel rough and taken the week off work. At least it arrived once the holidays were done with :)

Mine arrived sunday night, felt fine all of sunday then in the evening couldn't stop sneezing, come monday morning I felt rough as. Unfortunatly due to some kind of commitment to work (?!) I decided to haul myself in and infect the entire office, before being sent home at lunchtime. Have since spent everyday unable to move in bed coughing up lumps of alien material and generally feeling rough. General symptoms were; worst headache i've ever had, cough, runny nose, sore throat / no voice, pain all over, dizziness and lacking the will to live... The best bit was lying freezing in bed, whilst sweating so much i'd soaked the bedsheets through :D

its in this area as well and takes ages to get rid of..... my wife even had an xray cos its going on so long.

Even drinking copious amounts of whisky doesn't seem to have cleared it for me either...altho maybe I should heat the whisky up first???

Must buy shares in the medical companies!!!!!

Thats because its virul, virus's can be very difficult to shift, what happens is your immune system eventually builds up enough anti bodies to shift the initial infection, but not always fully, then what often happens is you get a secondry infection and the virus can move around, infecting the next weakest part of your body, usually your ear nose or throat, as i found out to my cost last year.. it started off with flu... two weeks after initial infection it represented itself in my nose right ear and the entire row of my top row of teeth on the right side, giving tooth ache, ear ache and a blocked right nasal passage, it took around six weeks to eventually clear.

The key is, that when you have an infection, to keep your fluid levels up, top up your immune system with supplements , vitamin c, e.c.t & keep warm.

Oh, and get well soon to all that are suffering .

Similar dose afflicting Ireland :(

So far (touch wood) I've avoided it

I got my flu jab in Oct/Nov (free to persons of a "certain" age :D ) so maybe that helped

I have had a similar virus but thankfully it has now gone.

Sorry guys but I do get a little miffed when I hear people say they have gone to the doctor and been given antibiotics.... I think I am correct in saying that these drugs do not work on a virus as they can only control a bacteria

I had a really serious bout of pneumonia in March last year and that nearly killed me.... thank heavens for strong antibiotics and good hospital staff in that case.... now that was a REAL chest infection
