Diesel Struggling To Start

My 2002 Yaris diesel (with a new battery) struggles to start (engine cranks over OK) when the outside temperature is below freezing. A friend suggested that the glow plugs probably require changing. Any thoughts from anyone?

glow plugs shouldnt need changing yet. how many miles your car done? i used to have a 1997 corolla with 120,000 miles on the clock used to start fine in the morning.

The problem could just be down to dampness in the connectors somewhere. I would inspect all the connectors under the hood, take them apart and check for damp inside. You can dry then carefully with a tissue and spray some wd40 or similar electrical spray in them and then try it.

Check the fuse box aswell and all the fuses for damp. ;)

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. I also read on the internet that Glow plugs should be changed every 50-60,000miles but there is nothing in the service book. The car has done 55000 miles.
