I have taken delivery of an Auris 1.6 TR today (demo model...260miles on clock) Looking at spec and details in handbook all ref to engine model numbers show 4ZZ-FE but my engine no is prefixed 3ZZ-U. Can someone explain this? I have never had a Toyota before so am interested to find out. Please help.

Shouldn't be:

1.6L that goes into the Auris is 1ZR

1.4L that goes in the Auris is 4ZZ

1.6L that used to go in the Corolla is 3ZZ

How do you know the engine number is prefixed 3ZZ? (i.e. are you actually looking on the engine as opposed to documentation)

If you've a 1ZR fitted if you look at the cylinder block above the alternator you should be able to see the engine type/number that's fitted.

If it's a 3ZZ or 4ZZ you'll see the type and number markings on the gearbox end of the engine (towards the passenger compartment). It is behind some pipes/wires though so can be tricky to see

There should also be a paper label on the fan belt end of the engine with some indication of either 1ZR or 3/4Z on it
