Don't Know ***** About This Car! Please Help

Okay here we go. Girl friends car is a 2000 Corolla CE with 112,000 miles. She ran dino oil for 10,000miles and it's consistently burning oil. I am fully capable of doing anything possible, all I need is some advice and direction from someone who has messed with these cars. like let's start with: what engine is this I believe it's the 1.8 L4? automatic tranny. I don't know any of the toyota model numbers, I've been a honda guy for years. Love Toyotas though. Anyways, I would like to swap in a new engine. First Anyone know where I can get a rebuilt or a gently used? Where can I get performance and aftermarket parts that are compatible with this car? What other cars have swappable parts. okay there's a good amount of questions, please give me any help you can I will really appreciate it.
