Anyone Know How To Remove The Inside Cover To Replace A Wing Mirror?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone can help me, I've bought the new wing mirror assembly, luckily the painted part stood up amicably and can be saved as can the glass, but need to replace the 'body', easy enough, but I don't want to break the interior bit off... so can anyone help me with how to remove the adjustment handle and speakery bit please.

"Speakery bit"? All you need to remove is the inner cover, the door card can stay in place.

To remove the mirror first open the door, then SLIDE the lid you can see towards the front of the car.

It's the bit that you can't see with the door shut, as it is then hidden bij the dashboard.

With the cover off you'll see a screw that need sto be undone, then the inner cover can be pulled off.

It's clipped into place at the bottom and near the adjuster besides being screwed, so it WILL

require some force. With the cover out of the way pull the rubber bit off of the adjustor.

Two bolts will now be exposed, a 3rd is allways in plain view near the leading edge of the door.

Undo all three with a 10mm spanner. The mirror is held on by a locator pin adt the bottom

and a hook near the top, so you need to pull out the base first, then unhook the body upwards.

Refitting is done the opposite way.

Removing the glass from the housing is only a matter of prying with your fingers, adjust the

glass all the way upward to make room for your fingers. The glass is held on firm, but it finally

WILL come off, it's clipped onto the base with 8 little hooks around the base-plate.

If you get around to removing the outer cover please let me know how you did that, as I've been

trying for over an hour last weekend and finally gave up as I was running late for an appointment...

The outer (color coded) cover seems to be clipped on by 4 double hooks behind the mirror glass,

but I didn't seem to make anything budge, even with all hooks disengaged...

Good luck,

Hi,

Thanks for that, I managed to remove the cover using a cloth covered flat head screw driver and by pushing the clips out one set a time very gently, took all of 20 mins, once I'd undone everything else..... -3 is not ideal to work on a car in ;-)

Thanks again and ATB,

So you pried at the outside, while pushing on the little tabs?

And this might sound stupid, but what does ATB stand for? Al Terrain Bike? B)

My English is quite good, but I've never seen this abbreviation in this context ;)

All the best.

Amusingly, I first learnt the abbreviation from a Swiss friend!
