Alloys On An Auris

What size alloys are the best for an auris 1.6 petrol? 17" or 18"?

205/40/17 or 225/40/18?

It's all about what you like more. Size 17 is nice-looking and not very different

from 16". Size 18 is bigger, and looks even better than 17, the wheels will fill

the wheel arches nicely. You will also feel the road better, this can be bad and/or

good option, depending on what you want from your car. Also the wheel noise inside

the car and price of the wheel set will increase if you'll put bigger wheels.

I chose for my car 18" for the summer and 16" for the winter, and I'm very happy

so far! :)

Good luck with your wheel-choosing operation

wouldnt the 18" fit the arches nicely aswell though? im getting alloys for a bit of increased handling but more for the looks. what would you recommend?? will the ride become really stiff if i get 18's? but another thing is that the diameter of the wheel 205/40/17 would be way less than the stock 16" but the diameter of the 18" 225/40/18 will be .02inches bigger which is better isnt it? otherwise the wheel overall would look smaller if i get 17".

How do you feel the road better, exactly?

The ride isn'ta as soft as it is with smaller wheels, I can really feel the surface

under my wheels, every detail of the asphalt. It's enough to put my hands

on the steering wheel, and I get the same feeling as when I'm walking with my bare

foot on the ground :D

That's what I said, 18" will fit the arches nicely. But if you were talking about 17", they won't look that nice in my opinion, because the wheel overall would look smaller, as you said in your post. For the look 18" is absolutely better, but it is recommended to get some lowering springs too, they will finish the look and make the ride even better, they will get you the feeling that you have 18" wheels become even stronger and will work nicely together with low profile 18" tyres. With 18" the ride won't be as soft as it is with 16" or 17", you will feel the bumps and get the true feelings about the road surface. I know that with 16" wheels the feeling is more like going on a plane, you don't feel the road, you just feel something soft. But it's only my opinion, you should try it out, and only then you'll know what you like the best. To be honest in Auris the ride is pretty sensible and stiff even with original 16" wheels, you feel the road much better than in many other cars... So yes, maybe for some people 18" wheels in Auris are too stiff. If you're afraid of that, you should go for 17" wheels. They're in middle of 16" and 18", so not too stiff and not too soft.

And now I'll answer to the last thing you asked: The bigger the diameter is, the bigger the wheels look. If you have 17" wheels with smaller diameter than 16" wheels, I think it won't look very nice because even the original 16" wheels look too small in the big wheel arches of Auris. So if you think it that way, 18" is better size. Also if you are going to install lowering springs which will lower the car more than 30mm you should read this: As I allready told I have 16" for the winter and 18" for the summer and 35mm lowering springs from H&R. When I was driving in summer, I had no problems when driving over speed bumps. After swapping to the winter tyres, my car starter to touch the ground in some places where it didn't before, and I had to start driving more carefully. So the diameter of the wheels is very important. If you are going to install the lowering, I suggest you to go for the 18", bigger wheelsize can save you from many harmful situations and you won't have to drive as carefully as you'll maybe will have to if you'll choose the wheels with smaller diameter. But it's only IF and MAYBE, because the difference isn't very big, so possibly it won't be so. I'm sure it'll be helpful to read some other topics considering wheel selection posted on this forum, you should try to find some of them... Here's also link to the topic where I'm introducing my car!

205/40/17 or 225/40/18?

Look at your brakes, 1.6 tiny ones are ridiculous even behind 16" wheel and D-CATs brakes are tight fit there, 1/4" cap. I'd personally change my stock 17" to 16", my winter tires are 16" and the noise level is acceptable. Stock 225/45/17 Dunlops were horrible, I changed them to Goodyears, those were nice and quiet, but worn out before 30 tkm. Next summer Michelin?

Stock Auris doesn't offer any goodies with bigger rims, the suspension and chock absorbers are too soft and bigger rim/tire combination is usually heavier than stock alternative. Maybe your steering feels stiffer in first three corners and thereafter you're worrying your lost money...

The Outside Diameter must be same. 205/55/16" fills same gap than 225/40/18". There's practically 1"'s gap to either directions, but who wants to lower chassis and rise it again with bigger wheels?

Ever heard about ET? Not that Spielberg thingy but rim's dimensions... Normal Auris ET is 45, D-CAT or T180 as pronounced in scottish reveals 50. Your favourite tirebroker sells you fabulous 17" 's with ET38 and there you are. Those fancy rims are chewing your valuable bearings like a chewing gum. You can hear the difference after 10000 miles...

wow, ur car is actualli amazing.. i like the exhaust. what is it? a muffler tip or a complete exhaust system? i read in the other forum that the car can gain upto a missing 20bhp? what is that about?

My exhaust is from Remus, special model for Auris 1.6... I have only the muffler tip, didn't want to change the whole system because of the expensivness of that operation and the possibility of the too loud exhaust sound (especially on the freeway, where Auris' revs rise higher than in many other cars). You can find the Auris muffler on their homepage www.remus.at!

I talked with Jp-Auris about those missing 20bhp and here is what he heard from his technician guy and told me: "if you want a better performance you would need to change from the CAT and middle section pipe. Best way is to ask your exhaust systems specialist, I'm just telling you what my garage told me when i got my auris looked at."

I asked my specialist, and he told me that the cat is reducing some power, but not 20bhp in Auris, by changing the pipe and the CAT to a new one you'll be able to gain about 10bhp... But you should ask from your own technician, maybe the one I asked didn't know what he was talking about... I doubt a bit that he knew anything about Auris', it seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about

Please try one more time and do it like this: Go to www.remus.at -> PKW Systeme -> Toyota -> PKW -> Toyota -> Auris -> "Typ(e) E15J(a) 1.6l VVT-i 91 kW, 1ZR-FE, 2007".

Unfortunately I don't know any other companys making exhaust systems for Auris yet... Maybe someone else has some information regarding this?

These are Remus partners in GB, just e-mail them, ask for the price and make an order... I'm sure they can post the muffler too, but I think it'll be cheaper to go and get it yourself ;)

Hey guys.

I'm new here, so you might have discussed it in the past but I still find it a little difficult to find my way around. Could any of you guys point me to a European websites selling alloys and tires online and possibly shipping to other countries, as I live in Bulgaria. Thank you in advance!

Does the new 17" alloys for 2009 Avensis TR and T-Spirit fit an Auris?

Think they look smashing and gives the Auris touch of class.

Anyone?

Think they do, as the TTE Pitlanes fit Verso, Avensis and Auris. Right?
