Replacement Dash

Hi

I have a 2004 Corolla, 1.4 saloon. Recently, one of the clips (the left one) to hold the radio panel in place snapped/broke and as a result the radio is no longer flush with the rest of the dash. On the left hand side it hangs out about .5 cm to 1 cm. I contacted my local dealer when the problem occured, and they told me that repairing the problem was not covered by the Toyota Parts and Labour Guarantee that I had. I though that I could live with the radio slightly hanging out, although I get pretty annoyed anytime I look at it.

Ignoring the look issue, the biggest problem that I am having as a result of the clip breaking is that when I travel over any bit of rough road, the entire panel begins to shake and rattle forcing me to switch off any cd/radio that I am playing at the time. This would be ok if I only had to do this on an odd occasion; however, a large number of roads that I travel on force me to switch of the cd/radio for long periods of time. I have been quoted about €500 for a replacement dash by the Toyota dealer (not sure if that include the labour cost), can anyone point me to a reliable site where I could seek out a replacement dash (either new or second hand)? If I could source out the replacement at a reasonable price, I could then approach the Dealer or my local mechanic to see if they would do the replacement with the part I provided. I have also considered the option of purchasing a tube of industrial strength glue and using that to hold the panel in place, but would be wary of doing so in case I need to remove the radio panel at some time in the future.

Michael.

This is quite a common fault. In my opinion there should have been a recall but thats just me.

Any way there doesn't seem to be any easy fix for the problem. Here's a thread discussing it;
