Hi,

I'm a prospective Aygo owner. I'm looking to downgrade from my trust Audi for something cheaper to run day to day.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried a reasonable long distance drive in their Aygo at freeway speeds. What's it like for a few hours (for a once in a year summer drive) on the freeway? I'm not expecting it to be cushy, just well behaved on the freeway and not as loud as an old MG with the top down. :P

I'm a little concerned running at 120 km/h for a few hours when the maximum speed is 157!

Thanks!

I do Glasgow to Manchester regularly, sitting at about 80mph all the way, never had any problems apart from one steep hill at the lake district, get up to 90 before hand and you will be fine

And I have roof bars and ski attachments which slow me down!

I have just done London (South East) to Helmsley, North Yorkshire, it took 3hrs 25mins (left at 7.45am) to get there, without being stupid and cruising around the legal limit, I worked out that it was averaging 47mpg on the run, (brim it to the top, refuel and work out the mileage etc.)

I have to say I did a round trip of 500 miles and back by 8.15pm and I was suprised I could still walk with no aches, the seats are more comfortable than my Volvo 850, and that is saying something. The only thing I can fault the car on is a) the road noise in the cabin (this can be soundproofed out cheaply around the wheel arches) and B) I miss somewhere to rest my elbow on the driver's door. Apart from that , it IS the best car in this class I have driven on a long journey. Outstanding is the word I have in mind.

If you are ever in the London Area, rent one for a day http://www.curriemotors.co.uk/rentals.asp They are doing a special of £98 for a week for an aygo manual rental. I know Brussels airport have some.

Personally , if you do a excessive motorway driving go for the yaris with d-4d engine, its a peach £35/yr tax, chain driven camshaft reliability, and excellent mpg. Otherwise get an Aygo if you only do mainly city stuff and the odd motorway jaunt.

Edinburgh to Manchester

Great on A roads, but once you get on the motorway stay at the speed limit and you'll be fine. Do not attempt to overtake cars, blast up the music to drown out the engine noise and u'll have a great trip. :D Fantastic on the fuel too.

p.s. Does having a spoiler slow down the car?

Yes, the top speed is a fraction lower and you'll probably loose a few mpg at motorway speeds for the TTE spoiler. The showroom spoiler is fundamentally cosmetic
