hi all

i have posted a few troublesome 'niggles' on this forum, and you have all been so helpfull....thank you

upon leaving work this evening,i could feel juddering through my clutch pedal for first 10 mins of journey with cold engine.

in traffic, stop, start, stop, start etc.after that its ok once engine has 'warmed up'

should i report this to dealership and get it fixed when they do other work in a few weeks?

should clutch judder at all?

if local dealership cant solve these 'niggles' and i end up getting fobbed off ,should i go further and contact toyota 'head office'.

never like complaining ,but really want these things solved this year.

can anybody advise me where to email,so i get more 'clout' please, many thanks

Hi mate

That could be bad news - real bad news. Have a read through this thread;

Just remind me, is it too late to return this vehicle or have you had it for some time?

Clutch judder should NOT happen. In my experience, it never gets better of its own accord - it just gets worse and will drive you mad. I believe it can be caused by poor quality clutch materials but if it has suddenly started that's not really likely, so it's more likely to be something else that needs fixing, as anchorman suggests. And if you leave it too long a garage may just tell you that it's due to the way you have been driving it! Get it sorted as soon as possible.

For whats its worth, doing quarter mile sprint starts and pushing through 240+bhp on my RAV with an uprated clutch admittedly, and running the engine up at 3000rpm before launch, the only judder I get is the tyres losing grip on the tar ! Thats about as fierce a use as you can get, (aside of trying to reverse a 6 ton caravan uphill).

So, no, you should not have any judder at all.

hi anchorman,this info may help

i have had rav for 3 years & 4 months now,.purchased it in oct 2005 and now in my last year possible extended guarantee, which finishes in oct,and it will be 7 years old.have covered 43'000 miles since buying it.

and in all this time...its never let me down, sure things have worn out, brakes, tires etc

have had clutch judder occasionally on and off throughout the time but only with cold engine ,just never really got around to reporting it along with the other 'niggles' that i have described, but now in my last year possible of extended guarantee.

i ask myself the question do i insist on dealership sorting out the noises and any clutch judder, just in case it goes horribly wrong after oct when guarantee expires.

i understand manfacturer extended guarantees cover everything apart from bodywork

oh crumbs yes....almost forgot,i remember being advised by 'after sales manager' when purchasing it,that it had had a 'new clutch fitted' at approx 32'000 miles,as it was juddering according to him as he had driven it himself just before i got it,but i have never asked to see documentation regarding this....should i ask?

any help or advise you can give me would be very gratefully received..........thank you ever so much

I think all I would do is approach the dealer as if you would with any other warranty issue. If you have a valid warranty that is a comprehensive as you think it is you should have no need to even mention previous issues. Just itemise the problems and ask them to address them under the terms of the warranty.
