i have a 1995, 4 wheel drive, rav4.

does any one know how to fit it and do i need any special tools

thanks

Hi and welcome

The dealer method was to drop the engine out the bottom and then take the thing apart and fit clutch.

I've seen it done in-situ, where if I remember the engine mount was slackened off and some other stuff loosened to allow the unit to be moved enough to access the clutch.

If you ring Dennis or Marc at The Garage in Motherwell (01698 265303 ) and tell them big Ian said to ring - I'm sure they will tell you how easy it is and how long it should take. They work on both of my RAVs, and have done the clutch on my old mans Punto so many times they can beat the dealer standard replacement times hands-down!!

By the way, I don't get commission etc from them!!! Just that they are very good and excellent at sorting my RAVs.

If you're around on Sunday 25th january, some of the Scottish TOC members are gathering at MacDoanlds at the Showcase, Coatbridge just off the M8. I'll have the number 1 RAV there and hopefully number 2 as well.

And the only tool you need is a clutch alignment tool.

Pies aside you don't even need an alignment tool if you have a good eye. I changed mine when I did the DMF so could see it well. No need to take the engine out. But the gearbox may need to come out.

Check the DMF whilst you are at it cos if it's faulty then you might as well replace it at the same time otherwise you have to go through the whole process again. I'm assuming this is diesel.

If its a 95 jobbie, then I doubt its diesel.

Ye - you can line it up with a wooden spoon !!

The engine can stay in but watch the weight of the gearbox etc.
