Low Mpg And Reduced Performance

Hi,

I've got a Corolla 1.6 vvti. Recently, it's started using more mpg, about 30 mpg instead of 39. She is also a bit sluggish when overtaking. Normally, I wouldn't need to change gear when overtaking but, just recently, she's slightly hesitating and I have to knock her down to 4th gear to get a move on!

I've checked the air filter and it's black but not blocked. Could this be the problem? Or what else would members suggest please?

Many thanks.

How old is the car, how many miles?

A dodgy cat/lamba sensor/mass air flow sensor could cause issue like this, any warning lights?

Could the cold weather we have been having be a factor, as I found my mpg go down to 45, from 52mpg!
