My Differences Between 05 Reg 2.2 D4d T4 And 57 Reg T180

Hi all,

just wanted to point out a few things I have noticed after a few daysof driving my T180

1) theT180 looks VERY VERY nice against my 'old' T4 when I parked next to one another.. Something about the T180 that actually makes it look sporty and 'different', could it be the alloys or the darken grill etc???

Well it does look the part but is it just another 'rice' car......:rolleyes:

2) well after waiting for my old insurance to run out and my new one to start I was ready for my drive home (only 20 miles!!) after a few handshakes and 'wish it was me driving the car' from sales and the coffee, I was ready to go.

3) Car doors are not as heavy as the T4, seats are very comfortable and holds you well after a few buttons pressed.

4) The drive...............

well, I can say from the start that the T4 wins hands down on the acceralation from standstill. T4 must have a low ratio than the T180, will need to find out and also why???? but after the start the T180 decides to run like the clappers!!! :yahoo::yahoo: the mid range torque just pushes the car forward like its on steriods!!! ok, abit of a white lie, its nothing like a subaru or evo but for a diesel and against my experience of the T4, the T180 does shift......

5) motorway driving ( I am on 3 motorways and travel main roads to get to work and of course the same back) is very relaxing and lazy (this is a good thing for me!!) and with the cruise control... its easy on the feet!!!

Also noticed that the pull near the top end is not as strong as the T4 eg.. overtaking on the motorway or speeding to get out of the way of the ars*hole who is bombing it down on the fastlane....

Well thats all I can say at the moment but overall, i am very happy with the car..

Would like to have more low ratio and also at high gear but cannot have it all.. maybe have to change my driving style again and drop down a gear to get the power...... unless you guys reading this know of something that may help me??

If so, please let me know..

Thanking you people in advance for your advise but please remember this is My Own Honest Opinon from my experience of both cars at this point in time.

If you rev in and then lift the clutch, you may find a happy point before the TCS kicks in at which your acceleration pleases you.

lol, so why dont i just redline it and then change gear??

On a serious note, i think i need to time it so that when i change gear it will be just withing the 2,000 rpm as thats when the turbo kicks in i think.

Just about to pick up my T180 in a few weeks, it`s well known that the T180 is very highly geared presumably for economy.

t180 is not an economy car - gearing is to lower co2 emissions.

Its quick and torquey but you will have to take it on a run to get good economy.

I love mine, i will get 47mpg in warmer weather, right now its about 40 on my commute which is town -> a-road -> town over 20 miles each way.

What else do you want in life!

I wonder if changing the gearbox from a normal 2.2 = a much faster T180!

You need to get used to the lower power band with turbo diesel, max torque is much lower down than a petrol engine so no point in thrashing or red lining it. Cant remember the torque curve figures, isnt it something like max torque at 3,200 RPM??? so keeping it between 2,000 and max torque rpm will give you best performance

Kingo

Well the 2.2 engines 2AD-FTV & 2AD-FHV do come with a lightweight 6 speed gearbox.

Has nothing to do with weight

the gear box ratios are diffrent.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a 56 plate T180 Tourer with 34k on the clock and moved to this from a Vauxhall Signum 1.9CDTI (150bhp). There are some major differences in the way the performace is delivered in the T180 with the engine seeming very lazy compared to the Vauxhall. The CDTI is very willing to rev and is much more like a petrol engine whereas the 2.2 DCAT needs a kick to get it going. It is easy to bog down in 1st gear and I have almost got caught trying to pull away onto a roundabout with no power - which then kicks in with a vengance.

Saying all of this, I have been very pleased with the car, max torque is 2000-2600 rpm so at 70mph, you are always in the torque band and it is fun to 'play' with other 'rep' type cars (honda, BMW 2.0d, Vectra etc) when accelerating from 70 in 6th as they simply cannot keep up. (not advocating speeding in any way but sometimes you need to get rid of the car glued to the back bumper for safety!). It's great in a straight line but can't keep up when you get to the twisties.

It will soon be time to move on and I am waiting to take delivery of a new Verso T180. I hope it will be as much fun.

Why don't you try SPIDER for a tuning box. You can fit it in 2 min flat and remove it as quick. It leaves you with 215bhp and buckets load more torque and in most cases helps your fuel economy as well. I have had one of these fitted to my wifes t180 A vensis for about a year now and before that it was fitted to her corolla diesel and i can say without doubt that it works fantastically and without fault all the time.

I also have one fitted to my own motor and it has been faultless also. (and no i don't work for the company) I'm just a very satisfied customer.

I`m sure it will up the power & torque but what happens to the fuel economy side of things ?
