Hill, Assisted Start

How many owners know how to use the Hill-Assist start system - my hand book Page 220-221 does not make it clear how to operate the system and refers to "P" for automatic gear box parklng selector, so when I tried, wrongly I now know, to use it I could not get it to work and assumed that it was only available if you had an automatic gearbox!

Anchorman very kindly explained in detail how to operate the system which is brilliant on my hill road, which we have many in Derbyshire.

I am sure that if enough people wish to know how to use it Anchorman might be kind enough to give his usual very clear instructions.

Hmmmmmmmm

funny

When I took my driving test back in the 1970's, hill starts were a feature.

Since then I've never had a great problem, or even a slight problem.

Why would Toyota want to introduce a hill-start-process??

Or is this just for diesels???

Surely things are going too far now!

Next thing will be sensor-assisted parking.

What !

That exists as well?????

I think I'm right in saying that cars with electronic handbrakes cannot be used in the driving test.

So, cars with sensor parking and hill start devices probably cannot used either or at the least these devices cannot be switched on during the test, to aid the learner driver.

Anyway, nothing wrong with good old handbrake / clutch control!

I have to agree, I was brought up to do hill starts with the clutch and also to double declutch with my crash non syncro gear boxes but things move on, a syncro box is much nicer and relaxing to use.

In my early days with an Austin seven, in an emergency stop you looked where to go off the road, in general, as they were basically brake less - now we would hate to go back to those days, at least for every day use of our cars so why not accept all the things manufacturers give us to make life more easy!

On our Derbyshire hills it might just save some clutch wear.

Best wishes to all

Hi, you can activate the hill assist by pushing the footbrake pedda down quite hard until you get a warning beep and notice in the info window (like the ice warning) the brakes will remain on for a few seconds but will release automaticly when you pull off. Hope this helps Mike.

On mine, you push the brake pedal down hard, you hear a warning beep and the traction control light comes on. You can then move your foot from the brake to the accelerator without rolling backwards. The brake stays on for 2 seconds only.
