Transmission Cannot Disengage

Hello All,

I have a 1992 Corolla DX with a 5 speed manual transmission

I recently did a complete engine overhaul and so i had to pull the entire engine from the car. I did not open the transmission

Unpon reassembling i connected everything back as i remember it. But now the car can shift gears while the engine is running and without me pressing the clutch. I know that something is wrong, but i can't figure out what it is.

Note: It can go from 1st through to 5th while engine is running, but not reverse, when i try reverse it grinds like it should.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like it could be a clutch problem !!!

Did you alter the cluch at all, if so did you put the clutch plate in the right way round ?

Do you mean you can actually drive the car and change gear without using the clutch or, with the car stationary and the engine running you can change gear without use of the clutch?

Mart.
