Assisted Steering Not Working For 3 Seconds

I'm not really concerned with this yet since it was the first time and as we all know all the cars of today are controlled by that electronic gadget called ECU. When you give the first turn in your key ECU controls and switches on and off all your car's gadgets. Anyway yesterday while leaving work after I turned it on and started to move it I noticed that for a while 3 seconds or so my steering was really heavy as if the assisted steering wheel engine wasn't working. It went back to normal but I was wondering if any of you experienced something similar already

If you try and move off before the ECU has done its self test (abs-power strg etc) then the power steering doesnt work. This self test normally goes off after a second or so. You can see the power steering lights and ABS lights go out if all is well

Kingo

Ye you might be right I turned it ON real quick (i.e., probably didn't give the VSC enough time be set OK) that time something I don't do normally

  • 1 month later...

Only had one problem in really cold weather when accelerated as car started.

Took the ignition key out amd waited a few seconds re tried all was ok.

Again just think system had not had chance to check itself !

Yeah always when starting the car, turn the ignition and give it a second (especially if diesel, wait for the glow plugs to warm up) then turn her over start the car.. (At this point I take a few seconds out to put my seat belt on) giving the ecu's time to know what they're doing.

Doesn't sound like a problem, just sounds as though you were in quite a hurry to get somewhere.. lol
