Hello all

Just joined the site, seems really cool

Im looking to buy a GT4 for about 3k max, I am going to p/ex my Diesel Passat (barge) TDi (78k miles on the clock) in the process and use the GT4 as my everyday car (25miles round trip to work 5 days a week and here and there, so fairly low mileage).

I've seen two I want:

L Reg GT4 Turbo WRC (255bhp - but on our fuel, maybe less?) - 88k miles (but in km, so 14x,xxx)

N Reg GT4 JDM (240bhp) - 70k miles

Both same price, M reg looks more or less un-modified, stock boot spoiler (so not the rally one), alloys and SS exhaust, L reg is stock also but with the usual WRC greatness like the bonnet spoiler etc. Both look mint inside.

Which do you think is the better option? I want it as an everyday car, the diesel is annoying boring and I've had it too long - always wanted a GT4. REALLY like the WRC, I'm also thinking with the higher mileage it *SHOULD* have had the suspension (figure 8s?) sorted, timing belt change and maybe even a new clutch (or then again it might need one now), the 70k M reg looks better (in terms of cosmetically) but it in comparison, it doesnt look half as evil as the WRC does (which basically looks like a rally car with the huge spoiler and grill).

I really like the WRC, but its mileage is much higher - however could I use the M reg as a bargaining tool to get him down (trade) as both same price?

Anyway, opinions (including use as everyday car) would be appreciated

Thanks all!

The jdm is the same bhp as the wrc. The spoiler well most people get the riser blocks so its just the same as the wrc spoiler. Personally i would treat it as a normal car and go for the one with most service history, most receipts, least owners etc. Sure having a wrc is good considering there isnt too many in the world but its exactly the same car as a normal st205 same power etc. You do get a few things different like anti lag and water injection both of which arent wired up plus one or two other minor differences. Just think about it logically just like buying a normal car and figure out which one is best. Read up on what u need to look out for or ask someone on here for a list of what to check. good luck

with their millage i'd ask the seller if the fig8's and lower arms have been done as they are both in that sort of range, clutches won't really make a differance unless your planning on launching it.

as clogwise has said, treat them both as if they were normal cars and not dream items, don't always go for the one that looks good unless it really is the better car.

most of all good luck and hopefully happy motoring lol

I would go for the one that is in the best overall condition, mileage won't matter aslong as its been taken care of.

Check through all the receipts for evidence of fig 8's being changed or at least check for play in the front wheels and any knocks or rattles from the front when going over bumps in the road. Any thudding from the rear will more than likely be a split rear diff mount (£90).

Timing belt should have been changed aswell, if its had a recent clutch then thats a bonus (won't get much change from £500 for a clutch change).

A GT4 will drink fuel compared to your diesel, I rarely see 200 miles to a tank and I don't use it for work, also bear in mind its a 68 litre fuel tank on them. Do NOT run a JDM GT4 on normal 95 ron fuel as you risk detonation, minimum should be 97 but preferably use Optimax.

Don't get too excited by things like a big spoiler, the raiser blocks can be picked up for around £100. If the car has a few extras then thats a bonus but don't let things like that get in the way of the important stuff.

200 miles to a tank :o i think you need to book your car in to get cheacked, or at least buy some lighter shoes, those lead ones your wearing are costing you a fortune

sound advise, but i think it's also worth mentioning that if you are wanting to run any GT-Four on UKDM fuel (95RON) then it's advisable to get after market management as these are designed to run on super, even the UK cars

The car is regulary serviced but it only gets used at weekends and the odd night in the week. I probably do 30 miles a week max so have to enjoy them ;) :D
