Oil Loss

Had my deisel T180 tourer in for its 1st service last november, it had just gone 12 months old on a 57 plate and lower milage than normal due to ill health 5000 miles so not much driving over the time i have had it from new.

Took it in the other day to my main dealer for a small problem and to my dismay i was told it had lost 1.1/2 ltre of of oil and the milage now is only 6040 and they want it back after another 1000 miles to check it.

Anyone know if this vehicle has any known fault or issues ?

Hi Pat2u,

If you search for oil consumption you should find a thread on the forum discussing exactly this problem. The problem, iirc, was down to poor gasket and once sorted out it is OK.

I am sure someone is going to chip in with more info.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply my friend, i thought the oil problem had been sorted out before 2006 this is why i posted as it was a bit of a shock, i am looking at the dipstick more often as i think the oil on the service may have not been allowed to drop into the sump therefore created a shortfall "i live in hope" perhaps but it does happen.

I think this was the most extensive thread on the subject.

Think you will find that this thread, although being the most extensive, refers to the pretty common problem with the Vvti engine (petrol) and in particular, the 1.8.

Pat2u's problem is with a diesel. Personally haven't heard any oil consumption problems with the diesel but I'm sure someone will let us know on here if there is.

The following thread may be of help - http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...oil+consumption

I have had my pistons and rings done on my T180 and just approaching the 1000 mile point - no obvious oil loss yet

The diesel engine does use some oil as normal but there are a few cases of excessive oil usage for the new diesel engines.

The link above is more about the older ZZ petrol engines.

1.5 litres of oil in 5000 miles isnt uncommon and is within the spec.

The 1000 mile check oil top up is normal and if the car has used more than the recommended amount your dealership will contact Toyota to request authority to remove and strip down the engine.

With the engine stripped they will check the cylinder bores for marks and measure them. If the marks are deep or there is any mirrored surfaces on the cylinder walls within 70mm from the top of the bore they will supply a new engine block that is built back up with your crank/con rods/pistons etc with newer higher tension piston rings.

They may also replace the EGR valve/clean and decoke the cylinder head & valves and inlet manifold/ reflash the ECU.

If there are no marks within the bores then the piston rings will be replaced with the newer higher tension type.

Mart.
