TOYOTA AVENSIS 1.8 1998 99,000 MILES

Hello My Engine managment light has been on some time i carried out a dignostic check. The check showed 02 sensor bank one was faulty, the sensor retails at £225 +v.a.t so i located and fitted a second hand one today It cured the fault e.m light went straight out but When i removed the old sensor the tip was white which to me looks like its been getting to hot. The used sensor had the usual black sooty tip, has the sensor gone white due to being faulty or is it a further problem.

Cheers

The O2 sensors work on a 'closed loop' with the ecu, they tell the ecu what's going on. If the sensor was faulty for a while, it may have been running on the weak side due to faulty info going back to the ecu. The light comes on when the info from the sensor is so far out that it can't be true or if the circuit has died etc.

The replacement sensor is sending info back within the parameters expected by the ecu so all should now be ok.

So, I think it's just down to the sensor but keep an eye on it if you are at all worried.
