I do not think Toyota used any particular make at any particular time, in fact when i picked my current car up it came with Yokohama tyres + another new one awaiting collection had bridgestones, having said that the only tyres i have seen on new ravs are the two mentioned + Michelins but i am sure others will advise if they have had any others, Is there any reason why you wish to know the original tyres? as there are lots of alternatives that are suitable + less costly..My own favourites are michelin if you can get them at the right price

I bought a new Auris just a month ago and it came on 16" Bridgstones (made in Turkey, as the car was manufactured there too). My dad got a Corolla in April '08 that also came with 16" Bridgstyones (just made in Japan, as the car was built in Japan). So I guess we could conclude, Toyota's come "shoed" with Bridgestones. ;)

Thanks for that

My 4.1 gx has dunlop grand trek tyres on and has had since new ( not the same ones )

But i find them a bit noisey at motorway speeds,

my new XTR has a mish mash of tyres on but the toyota dealer put a brand new Bridgestone on just before i picked it up

I dont like tyres of differant makes on the car it does affect the way the car handles (IMO)

Never had bridgestones before .

Are they ok? if not can you recamend some that are.

Thanks

Alan

Well, to be honest, I've never had Bridgestones before and I've never driven an SUV either and the tires there are a bit different, aren't they? In the past I used to drive an Opel (Vauxhaull) Tigra and I was very pleased with the Kumho Ecsta KU31 tires I chose for it.

They were very quiet, comfortable and handling was really easy. I haven't had the chance to test the Bridgestones yet as I changed them with winter tires as soon as I left the dealership. However, Bridgstone are currently the only supplier of tires for the Formula 1 championship, so something tells me they know how to make good rubber ;)

My September 2005 XTR diesel came with Toyo A11s though the Toyo website refers to Toyo ATR11s -perhaps that is for the mark 3? Just done 30000 miles and due to a non repairable puncture, put the unused spare on the left front and a brand new Toyo A11 on the right front. Will need new rear ones shortly and will replace with Toyos to keep same brand on front and rear (unless anyone thinks that a. its ok to mix and b. there is a vastly superior tyre out there)

When I had my 2005 XT-R diesel, it was fitted with Toyo Tranpath's when new. If you are thinking of changing

your tyres, a few 4.2 owners on here have bought General Grabbers and have been impressed with the results.

Lets go back to basics - what sort of driving do you do and what sort of speed, and stress will the tyres be put to ???

If you're doing standard driving, then I'd think £110 a tyre is well over the top. I'm spending less than that buying Fawken for drag racing and fast road. When I was using my RAV for normal road use, I paid £60 a tyre.

After a lot of hassle I had with Bridgestone tyres when I was in Australia, I would never use them ever again.... mainly cos of availability.

I did a bit of research recently when buying new tyres.

The Bridgestone Duelers don't have a very good reputation since people say they're very good and grippy on dry roads but bad in any other conditions... and they wear out too quickly.

I went for General Grabber UHPs after a recommendation on this forum and am very happy with them. They seem to get good reviews on other parts of the interweb and are less expensive than the Duelers. Try blackcircles.com.

I would have a preference for investing in a set of winter tyres, to use from November to April, and then revert to summer tyres for the rest of the year. I suppose in this day and age we are looking at £80 per year for labour in switching them around.
