Hi All, anyone know why fitting an aftermarket radio results in very poor reception. FM seems to work fine but AM is how can i put it - non existent!

I bought a HD Radio from the states and i thought it was duff so i tried it in another car.

Tried Alpine, Kenwood and Blaupunkt all the same in the corolla - they don't work!

I checked the wiring loom for an amplifier connector but the "blue wire" doesn't' have a corresponding wire in the car's loom.

Any ideas?

Isn't that for remote switching the unit on??

yeah its for an external amplifier. i'm thinking the corolla has got one, probably energized by the centre conductor.

right seeing as i've removed my aerial, without even taking the headlining down - yes i am a genius!!! well i was impressed withmyself anyway.

the aerial on the corolla is a Bosch job. the AM and FM are both amplified at the head unit, the FM will work but the AM will not without an amplifier. .

the amplifier is not hooked to the blue wire.
