Suitable Aygo Replacement

Recommended Posts

okay so I cant really believe that im asking this, and do feel a bit like im betraying little growler but what would be a suitable aygo replacement?

Ive had mine for 3 painless, fantastic value, stressfree motoring years but its time for a change. Ive changed jobs and need to lug a lot of stuff around so need something with a boot, and a bit more power. I dont really fancy a yaris because I do agree with other posters that it looks like a hamster so anyone got any ideas of a funky hot hatch that will be as fun to own/drive as me Aygo?

I'm guessing another Aygo is out of the question? lol

How about a Suzuki Swift or a MINI Cooper? I'm quite taken with the Swift - they do a 1.6 125bhp Sport which is apparently very good! I only hear good things about both the Swift & the MINI... obviously you pay more for a MINI but there are loads of very reasonable 2nd hand bargains out there!

Have you tried the YARIS?

It is a perfect car as a larger replacement for your Aygo

Do not dismiss it so quickly :)

My first suggestion would have been the Yaris too...

OK, it's looks could be better, but it's not ugly...

And second suggestion would be a Swift...

If looks do'n really matter you cold take a look at a Hyundai i20 or if you want

something retro and still Toyota-related take a look at a Daihatsu Materia...

I'm in the same boat; well not exactly. I love my aygo; but I want something with a little more oooomph! I'd quite like a Celica GT or an MR2 or a Glanza; I know they are money grabbing But I like. We shall see though :D

New style Ford Feista ?

Pros: Looks nice (imo), good looking dash, handles well, better models well equipped, excellent discounts at the moment.

Cons: You need to go for the Zetec or Diesel models to get an engine with some go.

I've seen up to £2500 off some of the higher models at the moment which can bring them within a couple of hundred quid of the Aygo Platinum/Blue prices.

bit of a wild card but skoda fabia diesel??? built like a tank, great discounts available, very economical and pretty roomy for a wee car.....why not?

How about a 2 litre D4D toyota corolla? My friend recently got one (before the name changed to Auris) and you get a lot for your money.

SEAT Leon SE is another good choice, which is fundamentally a VW golf.

If you want acres of space for less than £3000, then have a look at a Honda S-MX, which is a funky, boxy mini mpv, has rear seats that fold down like double bed and an enthusiastic reliable 2 litre engine.

hmmm some good suggestions guys, thanks!

I dont really wanna leave Mr T so I have arranged a test drive on a Yaris SR for the afternoon when growler is in for his 30k service so i maybe convinced to stay especially if they can give me a decent(ish) quote on a part ex, - the stats that the Aygo was 08's slowest depreciating car put a big big smile on my face!! - the Swift is indeed a cracking little car though I would have to see how much crap I could fit in it. Fiesta was top of my list to check out this weekend but the dealerships around here were rammed with folks looking at it and the new KA, so I may trundle on down midweek to see if I can check it out up close.

Rather than a Fiesta, what about the Mazda 2. Its cheaper, made in Japan and the Fiesta is based on it !!!!

May be too expensive, but the new Avensis is very nice, don't know how much it is but looks very good.

If money would be no object I would go for the Prius, dealer took me in for a spin when I was getting my Aygo, excellent car. Too bad it is over twice the price of Aygo here in Finland. Don't know about the UK prices though.

Something like a Mazda 2 my mums got one, there pretty gwd and i am sure it has a toyota Engin under the hood =]

really big boot and dont look that bad =D

defo no go for Renult Clio and Fords!!!

oh yes the new ford fiesta! i nearly bought one til the finance bounced!! haha so i went bk to trysty toyota :) xx

I had an 06 plate Suzuki Swift 1.5 GLX, they're fantastic cars, but they're a lot more expensive to run and not as much fun.

Suzuki customer service was rubbish compared to Toyota as well!

I'd vote for the Materia too. Stand-out looks on a Yaris body. It is sold as the Toyota BB in Japland.

Ford Focus 2.0 tdi estate for a bigger car if you need lots of room. Pound for pound probably the best and most versatile car on sale in the UK today that is not prestige.

If it is still too expensive then a 2nd hand Ford Focus 2.0 tdi estate..... :D

WELL its with a heavy heart that I bid the Toyota & Aygo forums a fond farewell.

Little growler is going next week, hes been replaced byt a boxy, boring, expensive german Audi A3, (only half decent car on the company car list!)

so I look forward to hugely inflated bills, expensive running costs and not being let out a busy junctions. Tried to get the old employers to take on little growler, even used the 'green' argument but they were 'avin none of it. Still im looking forward a using a boot again! Who knows, if the economy continues I may very well be back here with growlers newer cousin in three years time, (heres hoping!)

have a good 'un guys its been a blast!

Some interesting suggestions in here. I am also pondering whether to make a change either in a few months when my Aygo's first MOT is required or next year. Still unsure.

Good luck to you benjamin! have fun with the Audi!
