4.2 Suspension

Hi All,

I have recently noticed that when I get into my Rav the suspension makes a kind of squeaking noise. I know that it is basically okay because the car passed its MOT last Friday but as I want nothing less than perfection for my Rav (as I would guess does everyone else here) I am inclined to replace it anyway. Upon talking to Kwik Fit I find that it is relatively cheap to replace the shock absorbers so that got me wondering if there are any worthwhile upgrades worth considering. Has anyone here upgraded their set up to something better such as Koni for example? If so did it make much of a difference?

Cheers,

Paul.

I fitted adjustable KONIs to my number 1 RAV, and use them at their stiffest setting. The road holding is much improved, but I also now have low profile tyres so the ride quality is pretty harsh. Its that way to help stop the beast taking off during 1/4 mile sprints.

You have a choice of shocks - try browsing some of the 4x4 sites, or USA or Australia and they should throw up some. And of course the UK.

Aside of that, the squeaks could be from any of the bushes. (But you'll know that anyway).

In the USA and Aussie market, theres more folk who lower or increase the ride height and fit other shocks. The RAV doesn't seem to have that type of following here in the UK>

Fitting shocks may not cure the problem. As long as you aware of that then carry on but it might be worth looking a bit deeper.
