Fuel Consumption

Hi,

I have just bought the new Avensis 1.6.

I have filled it up with fuel 3 times and the fuel consumption displayed on the screen is quite wrong.

Normally it displays 11.5 l/100Km but what i measure is 9.0-9.5 l/100Km (worst case)...

Does this had happen to any of you !?

Do you know how many litters(gallons) still exist in the fuel reservatory when the low fuel level lamp lights on !?

Thanks.

Regards, Pedro Pereira

Try filling your tank up to the top, then running the car for a few hundred k's. Then fill it back up again and see how much you can get in the tank. This is an easier way of working your fuel out. Also, when you fill up for the first time, reset the average fuel consumption read out then see what it says at the next fill up. The guages are usually quite accurate, but need resetting at the beginning of each period or journey you wish to test from.

The same sort of thing happens to most new Avensis (T25)owners, but the other way around. I have regularly 6.0-7.0 l/100km on the display, but if I measure directly at the pump I know I'm getting nearer 7.0-8.0 l/100km.

It was a little worse when the car was brand new, but the situation hasn't improved much over 9000km.

I seem to have a little under 10 litres left when the red light comes on, and 5 when the range read-out says 0km and the fuel guage is rock bottom (I've only run it that far twice  )

Because of the inaccuracies I don't use the display much anymore :( except to see average speed and range. I switch it off most of the time and use the cubby-hole to store my mobile phone :D

Thanks for the quick reply !!!

The results measured were done with the sjrainsford method by 3 times. And every time it give me the same result : it indicates plus 2 litters per hundred Km than what i measure filling up the tank.

I think the onboard eeprom must have some kind of value tunning that can be set, and over that value the computer displays consumption values acording to the type of dirving your actually doing. in my case the value set is too high.

One thing that led me to this conclusion is that before i bought the avensis i tried a corolla station wagon diesel version. The displayed consuption on that car was 2.4l/100Km and we were driving on the city!!! The Toyota guy uses that car every day(it was 1 year old and travelled 25000km). He was also confused with that value.

Many thanks also to yannick by the information...

See you around!!!

Hi again,

Just come out from Toyota and i was told there is a fix for the computer error. They checked the model version and ordered some hardware???, maybe a new eeprom... Work should take an hour an an half... But it is covered by the guarantee!!

Maybe this might be helpful to someone with the same problem...

See you !

I guys, my Avensis D4D makes an average of 6,5 at a average speed of 150 km/h and when the fuel light lights up it has 12L left in the tank and the range says 50 km, when it reaches 0 km is as 6 L in the tank but if what my coutry man says is correct i have to talk to them to see wat's up.

I have just bought my 1.8 Avensis and I do not understand:

is it possible that I cannot reset the average fuel consumption?

When is it reset?

Thanks a lot

it is reset when you fill up.

Actually, I think that in the T25 it resets every time you start the engine... well everything else does anyway :D

Well, actually, now that I think about it, I have a doubt. It may be the average over a fixed distance. Anyway I'm pretty sure that you can't reset it yourself :(

i only got my avensis on saturday so i might be wrong but as i read it in the manual if you select the one you want to reset on the display and hold its button in then it will reset. except the average mpg. this is reset when you fill up and is the average of the tank.

Well , the only reading you CANNOT reset is the fuel consumption , NOT the average !!

if you select the one you want to reset on the display and hold its button in then it will reset.
