Cylinder Numbering In 2000 1.3sr?

My wife's car has a misfire on cyl 3 according to the diagnostic machine.

Sparkplugs made no difference so assumed coils.

I have a replacement coil from a 2000 1.0 (Are they the same as the 1.3 coil?), but which is cyl 3? Do i start counting from the drivers side to passengers, or vice versa. (UK car so passengers side is the same side as the air box)

Thanks

Cylinders are normally counted from the front of the engine, this being from the opposite side of the gearbox,

If it still misses you could always swap it with the only other possible number 3 next to it.

Hope this is a help.

Thanks for the replies.

Raeman - I know they fire in that order, but I am trying to identify which cylinder is which. The post above says that I should start counting at the opposite end of the gearbox - is that driver's side or passanger's side?

Thanks

Hi bigjode....If you stand in front of the car with bonnet raised, looking at the engine, the gearbox is on the right side, same as the airbox. The engine firing order will start from the cylinder to the far left of you...

so it cylinder 1...2...3...4

firing order 1...3...4...2

So number 3 cylinder will be the 2nd along from the left of you.

Hope that helps ;)

The fact that the firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2 doesnt change the order of the cylinders,

it just means that cylinder 1 fires then 3 then 4 then 2. So the 3rd cylinder will be third from the left.

Not trying to argue or anything, just trying to help bigjode locate cylinder 3.

Hope that helps.

All Toyotas have cylinder 1 at the timing belt/chain end of the engine.
