3 Year Warranty Question

I have just had a service carried out on my Corolla.

The dealer has advised that the rear brake pads are low and that one of the rear brakes callipers is "partially" seized.

The servicing dealer wanted around £50 to free off said calliper which I am guessing was going to be a spray of brake cleaner and some copper grease on fitting the new pads.

I explained to the dealer that as it is seized the calliper should be replaced under warranty but they disagree and claim it is not covered.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Car has currently covered just under 60K miles and is 30 months old

Any advice would be greatly received!!!

You're correct in saying they are classed as wear and tear. It all depends on the dealer that you go to if they replace them or not. I know a few people who have had new breaks under their warranty.

If the car is in warranty i.e under 3yrs old & 60,000 miles and has a perfect Full Toyota Service History i would ask the the dealer to speak TUK and ask for a gesture of goodwill as you have done all you can to keep the car in top condition. If it hasn't got a Full Toyota Service History then the chances of anything are nil IMO.

Thanks for the info.

I have owned the car from new and it has a full service history.

I have no issue with paying for the worn pads and labour etc but was dissapointed with the dealers attitude to the calliper. They refused point blank to speak to TUK.

Brake pads and rotors are not covered as they are classed wear and tear and therefore not covered by the warranty. However, the calipers should definitely be under warranty!

Give them a ring yourself 0845 275 5555, don't expect it to be an easy call though!

I got my discs skimmed and pads replaced under warranty.

Didn't even know there was a problem - they just offered to do it as they thought there was a judder?

So guess it depends on how 'friendly' the dealer is.

It's a poor show of some Toyota dealers when it comes to warranty work, some are great with it (york) and others you would think the cost of the repair was comming out of their own pocket!

i had a problem with my rear pads wearing unevenly, one pad was to the metal at one side and had 4mm left at the other TUK said it was wear and tear so 90 quid later i got my car back....tut tut tut toyota....never again

A seized caliper would be covered under normal warranty, I cant think of a reason it wouldn't be, it is not wear and tear. Ask to speak to the service manager and let him explain why it is not covered. If you dont agree with him, ask to see the Centre Principle. You are wasting your time phoning Toyota at this stage, they will pass you back to the dealer until you have exhausted that route first.
