Sick To Death Of The Compressor

Look, you may remember many moons ago my spaight of posts on here regarding just how shockingly poorly made my compressor is.....6 exhausts, 2 ECU's, 4 sets of front discs, 2 sets of rears, two shockers, an alternator...al in 24,000 miles!

Dont get me wrong its a reasonably quick car.....when/if it works! just compared to other hot hatches iv driven it feels like i did the "upgrades" myself! i mean the brakes....surely you'll agree they have the feel of custard and the effectiveness of an old astra i once drove. how the hell did toyota expect the little fellas to stop the car more than once from high speed! they warp the first time you brake from 130+ (on a track??)

well i've had enough! surely there are more of us out there that expect our compressors to actually do what they say on the tin!

Viva la Revolution!!!!!!!!!!

So is it safe to say Toyota have more problems with the CTS-C compared to the CTS???

I wouldn't say that, the CTS will have it's fair share of problems too... it's just the the TTE version has "extra" bits that can also go wrong, any car can develop problems, some more common than others and unfortunately every make and model will have it's "Friday afternoon cars" too. Being built on a Friday afternoon means that the factory workers are to eagre to get home for the weekend and make more mistakes.

I had a problem with one component with mine, it turned out it was a problem that was known to TTE.... EU Emissions Box.... link to thread... got it fixed and have never had a single problem with the car since.

I think you have been unlucky in your problems Danny, you either persevere with it and keep on at Toyota to get it sorted... if you read the link I posted you will see I contacted TTE directly and they were superb... or do a Steve has suggested and sell it.

Probably picked up a bad one mate, TBH...all cars have faults and i reckon you have picked up a lemon. Many owners have had hardly any problems with there CTS-C yes the exhaust is crap but brakes and all have been ok. If you are not happy i would say sell it and look else where. Personally i think it is a sound car, being only 250....most people tend to notice the problems quicker because there are so few of them. Many people have just signed up to this forum for help because a problem has occured. Hope all get sorted soon tho.

The sad reality is both the CTS & CTS-C share to many components with the other Rolla's (No offence others  ;) ), this makes it compromised when compared with rivals CTR/Focus ST etc etc. The engines are great but the rest of the car needed more spent on it!

Civic Type R - Front Discs 300mm

Focus 1.7 TD - 260mm

CTS/C - 275mm

Diesel - 275mm

Need i say more

No wonder they dont make anything sporty anymore.

Toyota seem to have forgotten that there is a market for people such as CabCurtains who wish to drive like their hiar is on fire with a wasp nest in their trousers!

We need more supras and Tsports!

The people have spoken.....(Or person)

personally i think it's just the CTS-C's and you should just do a straight swap with me for my CTS which has proven itself with over 125K on the clock :P lol

i agree this is one of the reasons why the car got such bad reviews in the press imo. its too inbixtween what its mean to be. a performance car.

it has the high rev engine, with short ratio box, yet the gear changes suck. How did Toyota figure that would work?

the suspension is soft and rolls hella style, to my knowledge the suspension setup inc roll bars are standard from standard 1.8 to the Tsport. How did toyota figure that would make sense, given that the standard 'rolla was never praised for good handling?

the track is too narrow for a proper performance motor.

the original TS doesnt even come with skirts! all sporty cars should have skirts.

So its not a drivers car due to the faults above, and its not a comfy cruiser due to the engine characteristics either so its a bit of a misfit.

i still enjoy driving it though!

Well your not going to get them!

Blame the "Must cut CO2 at all costs" campaign. The only thing you will get is a diesel with a bit of wumph! Blame the hole in the ozone layer  Of course it doesn't matter if you want to build a third runway somewhere

Kingo

True but sad words!

I do wander how long it will take for people to get bored of being told what to do and to then start to ignore the global warming situation! As important as it is, its a load of BS if companies cant make a fast car yet its ok for the environment to handle another runway on the earth!

As some of you may have gathered, I am bored of global warming......

hm people scapegoat the environment

but there is NOTHING to really stop car manufacturers producing hi CO2 cars, for instance there isnt a stoppage on V8s or V10's in europe they get 8mpg in a ferrari but you dont see them cutting back to a 1.8 with dual cat converters?

it comes down to cost. Toyota like all car makers is cutting costs, trimming the excess of performance models and standardising components whilst trying to get the car to fit into a particular tax bracket or other.

they could just say, balls to the wall with it - but they dont want to take the risk on something that wont sell that many units and have a high unit cost...kinda what Ford did with the Focus RS - loss leader of a car, but completely done right from the ground up. but its risky, and may give the wrong perception or image of a type of car.

Toyota want to promote the slow and safe type vehicle where possible to consolidate on their obviously aging demographic of car owner. and not upset them with chavs riding out on blatzd motors giving the brand a boy racer/chav name...

Honda went another way for a while (coming back in line now), hence why you saw so many TYPE R adverts in Evo/TG magazine, yet extremely low numbers of T Sport adverts. its an image and a cost based thing unfortunately.

I understand it all but couldnt they just squeeze out one small supermini or hot hatch?

Just one?

Please Toyota?!?!

nissan have sadly gone the same way too...remember the Pulsar GTIR? (SR20DET 220bhp~ AWD Rally road car) --> Almera GTi (SR20DE FWD 140bhp) --> current gen or last gen Almera top of the range was the 1.8 SVE @ like 113bhp...

Bluebird turbo cant remember the engine code, but basically think, 1.8 CADET or similar -> Primera GT SR20DE 150bhp...--> rubbish new Primera with a detuned (even further detuned) 2.0 SR20de at 138bhp...

but the contrast to Renault, who started off with a few Valvers and Clio williams 150bhp..now they are rocking the 192, the megane 225 and they did the genuine Clio V6. All of the renaultsport cars are completely different to the stock version in terms of handling, brake package, kit and performance...

THEN we look at Vauxhall and their emergence with the VXR range...220bhp XVR Astra that handles great, 1.6 turbo Corsa, Laguna with 2.5 V6 turbo! and a !Removed! VXR8 topping the range!

similarly we look at VAG, 1.8 Turbo---> 2.0 Turbo 150bhp in early low spec models up to 225 for the 1.8 and 250+ with the 2.0, never mind all the 3.2V6 and 4 litre V8's they be pumping out!

yet toyota are going completely the other way, like Nissan...consolidate, conform, compress:/

I have to correct you on Nissan!

They have just turned out the new 370Z!

3.9 V6 and something like 330BHP! Cant argue with that!

It's faster, tighter and better looking than the 350Z i think.

hm im not convicned they arent pushing the med/low end 200sx, or have like a 300sx true replacement (the 350z is meant to be i know but you cant escape the twin tubby 3 i the 300sx..and besides the 370 is a bespoke verion of an intended "fast car", what im saying is they wimped out of making proper fast car versions of boggo spec cars like the Yaris (Starlet turbo but not over here:/) Corolla etc.

sure the new GTR is faster than any prior skyline but its not low end, hot hatch territory either.

When you do 50k+ per year in a Diesel Passat having the odd blast in something petrol and fast (ish) is essential to remain sane

The bluebird was the same engine as the old silvia, ca18et, not set as the d denominates dual cam.

As for the 350/370 they use Renault engines, what were you saying about the frenchies making quick cars? LOL

The gt-r is the only real fast car the jap's have released, and even at that it was tested on german roads built in japland then on the ring once ready

global warming has ruined driving, forever maybe?

as the younger generations come through and the "be green" attitude is drilled into them at a young age, including the ever increasing road tax farce, it becoming almost impossible to insure anything as a first time driver for under a grand and the ever rising cost of fuel, will we see younger kids buying crappy green cars thinking they will be doing the whole world a favour and therefore manufacturers pumping out more and more eco cars and less and less performance motors?

also on a related matter, the government and the eu basically blame us for being a wasteful, non caring society, but think back 100+ years ago, the revolution etc etc think of the amount of unfiltered, unchecked ***** that they spewed into our atmosphere, in comparison to today what we now put into the atmosphere is nothing, then again theres not alot we can do about what was done back then, but i stand by what i say lol

also back to the compressor, whoever was engineering the ctsc engine must of been well lazy, he spent ages gettin 190bhp from the cts engine, then thoight il bolt a charger to it and left it at that, no extra tuning, no other special little bits, because to get only an extra 25-30bhp is quite frankly appauling, i was expecting it to be more round the 235bhp mark
