hey all,

dsc01147tx6.th.jpg

I bought a Toyota corolla Gti 2 years ago in Northen Ireland for cheap enough and only ever drove it once and that was when collecting it and driving home from the north. Its been in my garage ever since.

REPAIR WORK done so far

1. New sunroof rails

2. Two New Front Wings sprayed and put on the car

3. Strip back and repaint of sunroof

4. New Brake Discs and Pads all round

5. New rear shocks and roll bar connectors

6. Remote central (Modern Toyota Key)

7. Brake Calipers painted

8. Whole car Machine polished to a great shine(bar rear aches:()

9. Oringial replacement wing mirrors (ones on it were sun faded to far)

Things STILL to do until Finished

1. Rear Wheel Arches

2. NCT

The one thing thats stopping me from finishing the car is the rear arches........ I don't really know where to start with it.... it just seems like a mountain of a job to cut and weld on new BIG rust repair panels (which i have ready to waiting to go on)and then paint and colour match the old paint with the new.

These are the arches.... since taken the rusty bits back down to metal, as on all these cars its worse than it looks in the photo.

I have a MIG welder

Grinder

Cutting tool

Scrabber, ruler, Angle Magnets and the new arches........Lacking a bit of skill at welding thin bodypanels tho to be honest

Can anyone give advice on how to finish the project from there own experiences doing it?? Im leaning towards the side of just welding in sections of the new arches just to replace the rusty bits and not an entire new arch as they are smaller and less can basically go wrong (fingers crossed)

If any1 has any advice it would be Great as its been on my to do List for 2 Years and gettin sick of the thought that its finished BUT!!! Cheers

If I have been taught correctly, then I's guess that you need a TIG welder rather than a MIG.

Not sure why but I'm sure that a mate of mine told me a while ago.

Maybe its more precise?!?!

Good luck anyway! :D

This:

Pretty sure you can MIG weld a panel on as long as ur careful and the amp isn't high. And cos i welded a piece of metal on to my other Gti one day.

Its more so welding a big panel in that im worried about(so any measurements to get right)

I'd Love a TIG welder tho :D i don't have a spare E2,000 tho
