Gents/Ladies,...

The alarm has been going off several times on my 2008/08 TR 2.2D. No windows open, not a windy day, don't think anyone has been bumping/pushing/rocking the car. No warning lights, no other symptoms. A cold-ish (2-5 deg Cent) day but had colder recently in the Highlands of Scotland. Can turn off alarm by pressing unlock button on keyfob.

Any suggestions??

I've taken to parking it up & locking the doors with by turning the key in the lock .. to avoid annoying the neighbours (and me!).

Regards & Thanks in advance...

Do you have anything dangling in the interior? fluffy dice etc? movement of this could set off the interior (ultrasonic) sensors. If so, remove them (dice or whatever) or read the manual as to how to set the alarm without the interior sensors (for when you leave dog in the car etc.)

Or could it be a cat that likes your nice warm bonnet?

Hi,

Had a problem like this on my 2004 Avensis. Turned out it was the loose change I had left in the tray by the handbrake, or at least the problem stopped when it was removed. I think I found that from this site somewhere.

No idea why it should affect the alarm though.

Had a problem like this on my new Avensis 2008 that i got in december last year.

The alarm went off while the car was parked at my home, not at any other places.

Never at night while we were sleeping.

I suspected some kind of interference from machines in my house and started to make notes when the alarm went off.

It was my very old microwave owen (20 years old) that triggered the alarm. Bought a new owen and the problem was gone!

Hi

Try pressing the button to stop the interior sensor working, if this cures the problem your dealer can reduce the sensitivity of this sensor.

Thanks guys, particularly cmia...

.. since going looking for the bonnet switch (and i really did hunt everywhere round the edges, hignes, bonnet catch etc... as I said I couldn't find it ... but...

... good news - NO PROBLEMS SINCE !!! So I surmise, having tried everything else (nodding hairy cow, bits of paper, flapping umbrella inside car etc..) and made no difference it must have been the openning & closing of bonnet resetting a mis-reading bonnet switch...

.. so , if your alarm keeps going off, try opening and shutting your bonnet!!!

Thanks again guys!! (And trhe neighbours say thanks also..._)
