Transmission Problems

I have a 1993 corolla and my transmission's been acting up lately. The engine light would come on and after a while the engine light would go out along with my overdrive light. I checked the error code and it said that it was code 42 (vehicle speed sensor). Even after changing it with a new one, the vehicle still says that it is the problem and the transmission is getting worse. I'm wondering if it is more of a relay problem.
