Climate Control Question

Hello again.... :D

Just a quickie... (easy tiger ;) ) When I put me climate control to auto it automatically switches the AC on, now if I switch the AC off (as I dont really need it right now and want to save a tad on the fuel consumption) does that mean the climate control wont work properly?

Regards

:g: Does it revert to a type of rough temperature control because without the A/C it can only warm up the cabin but not directly cool it down again (only reduce the amount of heating).

As Fuj' says unless the A/C is on it can't fully maintain the conditions inside the car. However if you turn the A/C off it will still automatically maintain the set temperature within it's capabilities so if for instance you have the temp set to 19 on the passenger side and 20 on the driver side it will take care of that on its own. For the best results you should avoid messing with it (turning the fan speed up when the engine is cold) as it knows how to increase the volume automatically to get the fastest possible warm up. If the temp outside the car is higher than those set it cannot physically do anything about it with the A/C of other than increase the airflow but you will fail to get it down to the set temp' as the incoming air picks up residual heat from the car body itself. The "auto" button also takes care of the air distribution and in most cases it will start by mixing the flow to the screen and the footwell then with time it will reduce the flow to the screen and eventually open the face level vents, both of the latter to stop you from becoming drowsy with warm air in your face. You can over-ride the auto and select just the footwell or whatever you choose. In this case it will still take care of the temperature by adjusting the fan speed but only direct the airflow to the selected direction.

The A/C is not only selected by default to assist cooling but it also acts as a very effective dehumidifier. The effect of that can be seen on a warm day when you can see the extracted moisture dripping out under the car. Leaving it on has two beneficial affects (other than being able to cool the interior to lower than ambient).

1/ It significantly reduces drowsiness so if you are beginning to feel tired on the motorway be sure to switch it on and see how it makes you feel better.

2/ It almost eliminates windows from misting up even without using the "demist" button.

You will find that the whole heater/ventilation system struggles to operate properly if the cabin filter is blocked so always make sure it is clean enough to allow unrestricted air flow.

I have a very good pdf file describing the heater system if anyone wants a copy pm me with your email address.
