Not A Good Day In The Auris

Parked the car on Friday at Swindon outlet centre and went shopping, when I parked there was no cars either side of me. When I returned approx 45 minutes later there is a car either side and a big mark in the dirt on the passenger door :o , on closer inspection once I have cleaned the door I have a 50p size dent at the top and bottom of the door and a crease line in-between the dents and another crease line as well. I was well p1ssed and felt like kicking the likely suspects car at the side, but went to security who checked the cctv footage and they found at 10:30am a car parked at the side and when opening the door banged mine (which must have been very hard to leave all the damage) and then got back in their car and moved to another parking space. Now the problem is due to the data protection act security will not give me any info so I have reported the hit and run accident to the police, which is an offence and then used the legal services on my insurance to obtain all the details required to make a claim for the damage to my car. I suppose the best part is because the driver who did this must know what they have done due to then parking there car in another spot and this can be seen by all on the cctv so will be good in court if it goes that far, so I suppose I am quite happy about it has I have the cctv evidence and the legal services to make the claim very easy.

Man, sorry to hear about your damage. That's one of the reasons I park the car, like you did, away from other cars if possible. To reduce the chances of this crap happening. Great to hear that the car park had cctv. Hope you get the git........

Not that this helps you, but this is why I insure with Direct Line because they will fix 3rd party accident/hit and run damage without any fuss. Well they did with my Astra anyhow. Same situation - Parked car, went shopping, came back to a big dent in 2 doors.

Good luck mate.

My insurance Norwich union asked if I wanted to book the car in for repair yesterday when it happened, I said no as I don’t want to pay the excess and just want to claim of the 3rd party who did the damage. If I have no joy will pay for the repair myself as this will cost approx £300. I think I wont have any problems as the w4nker was caught on cctv and I have the solicitor on the case, I have also inform the solicitor that as the car is only 15month old I don’t want a repaired door and that it should be replaced with a brand new genuine Toyota door. I would imagine this will cost over a £2000 with painting and labour but at the end of the day it’s my car and not my fault, they agreed this was a reasonable request due to the age of the car. On top of that I also will be claiming for stress caused by the incident and all the time I spent chasing CCTV, police, insurance etc this was approx 6 hours. The way I see the person who did this thought they was being clever, Well I am that mad I will insist they are charged for failure to report an accident and will go for as much as I can get, one thing for sure they will pay for this when their insurance wants renewing and I am sure they will also give them a premium hammering for the failure to report the accident as insurance companies take a dim view of this

Sounds like just the job for these chaps:

I doubt if you will get this (Insurance companies are unlikely to replace any panels unless they are irrepairable, which yours appears not to be) .................but good luck

Do not underestimate the ability of these guys................creases are what they specialise in removing

(I have no professional connection with them, but am a very satisfied previous customer)

Give them a try.............they will usually quote for free and do carry out repairs to many "Brand New" cars at dealers prior to the original owners taking delivery

Rick if i were you mate i would find out were this ubik lives and give him a hiding, this type of thing happens in liverpool all the time. I was parked in a spot and was just about to get out my rav4 (my car about 2 years ago) and this range rover driver came in the spot next to me, opened his door haphazzardly and bashed the passenger door of my rav4 and just continued as if nothing happend. Then confronted him to which he apologised and said he didnt know (as if) and then gave me his insurance details. Honestly mate, these people need sortin out.

Hope you get it all sorted.

I had a similar thing mid December on a local carpark, and had to take exactly the same approach. CCTV and police involved, then the guy admitted it. Luckily, he only scraped the paint off so getting my front bumper resprayed at a Toyota dealer and it has sort of done me a favour as there was a years worth of stone chips on it.

The cheeky chap asked for a quote and would pay it himself, but that option went out the window when he did a runner in the first place, and through the insurance I get a hire car, so no brainer really.

Hi

Ring the car park manager on Monday morning and get them to save the tape/dvd of the incident otherwise some brainless moron will reuse it and you will loose the claim....

Any idea how much dentdevils charge for removing a small dent? I have one in the passenger door thanks to someone unknown opening their door into it in a car park! I try to ignore it but it niggles.

The police have the CCTV footage and have confirmed a letter is in the post to the owner of the car to find out who was driving at the time etc, I have been told they have 28 days to reply. Once they know who the driver is then I will get the details for the insurance company

I would guess with inflation £40-50, maybe less if its a quick fix.

Whilst that's good to hear all you will be able to claim for now is the £50 you spent repairing the door.

You got your dent fixed ......................"Don't make a drama out of a crisis"...............(To quote an old Norwich Union Insurance Company advertising slogan)

I doubt very much if you will be successful in recovering any other personal costs.......................You may have been able to do so if you had left it all to the insurance company to sort it out, but you did not do that.

There was no need for you to incurr what could be seen as "unnecessary" costs.

Good luck if you feel that you will be successful

the "unnecessary" costs where incurred by some !Removed! that damaged my car and drove off to leave me no choice but spend time getting the cctv footage and going to the police, I have a solicitor sorting out the expenses etc and these will be claimed along with the repair from the 3rd parties insurance. Not my problem the 3rd party should have been more honest and careful

Hi RICK

In order to do the repair, do they have to remove the door panel ( covering ) on the inside of the car ?
