Pity you did not take some photos of the damage as your claim against the "careless driver" may well suffer as a result :(

as the car is only 15month old I don’t want a repaired door and that it should be replaced with a brand new genuine Toyota door. I would imagine this will cost over a £2000 with painting and labour

Your initial reaction was just a bit OTT wasn't it?.................It is often not so bad in the cool light of day :)

Had the dent guy round all I can say is I dont know how they do it, All damage gone for £50

I told you not to underestimate these guys ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Spoke the women who damaged my car today, she denied it and said she was not even in the car park at 10:30am so could not be her. I pointed out how the police had watched the cctv footage which does not lie and that they say there is enough evidence for a prosecution, I left her to sleep on it and told her if we have not come to an agreement for her to pay for the damage by noon the next day I will pass her details to the solicitor. I will then proceed to claim for the damage of her car insurance and pursue the complaint with the poilice so she will be prosecuted for failure to report an accident etc.

TBH I dont care either way as with the cctv footage the case will be very easy to prove who is to blaim, but if she pays up it will be quicker for me to get my money back

Is it REALLY worth all the hassle for a £50 repair.....................Or does it make you feel good? :)

You have got your car fixed for the cost of a couple of rounds of drinks...................imo you should not be so vindictive.

Look money is tight at the moment due to lack of work because of the current climate we find our selves in, Now why should I pick the bill up for this women's careless mistakes? IMO the women should have not been so careless and tried to get away with the damage she clearly knew she had done has she then decided to park elsewhere. This is not vindictive this is called getting what is owed to me, Would you be impressed if I walked by you car one night and kicked your door and would you just pay for the damage and forget about it? Some how I think when the shoe is on the other foot the answer is NO.

I have offered her the cheap way out of this situation if she chooses not to take my other then she deserves the possible risk to loose her no claims bonus and a prosecution and points on her licence. There is enough evidence so its her choice as to weather she wants to find out.

Got to say i agree with Rick here.

There are too many people that just don't give a damn about other peoples property these days.

When you have payed for a car completely out of your own pocket its joke that people can damage it and get off scott free.

As Rick said he parked away from other parked cars, so he could avoid damage to his car.

The fact that he has spoken to her and she still denied it, shows she doesn't give a damn even though there is video evidence.

Its also not like she can say she never knew she did it, as when she hit his car she moved to another parking spot.

It reminds me of a story in auto express a few weeks ago, where a guy is in his car, and a woman pulls up next to him.

Her son gets out and hits his car with the car door, when he gets out and and mentions it to the woman she says HE shouldn't of parked so close then drives off ... classic !!!

As far as i can see it doesn't matter if the damage is 10 or 1000 pounds, its the principal.

GOOD on you Rick.

well she has until dinner time today to give me a call, after that I will let the solicitor and the police deal with it. I was more than fair when I gave her the cheap way out of this, if shes to stupid to see that then she deserves the punishment

I'm with Rick on this one and agree totally with the sentiments expressed in Andy's recent post.

What's vindictive about pursuing a legitimate claim? I too am fed up with the way so many people don't give a damn about the property of others. My car was damaged a while back by 'persons unknown' and, whilst I am reasonably certain who did it I cant prove it and they never owned up.

Hope you get her to pay. Frankly, its the principle. whether £50 nor £5. Some justice would be nice for a change ;)

Maybe "Vindictive" was just a little too strong a word to use............My point was that you originally came on here saying that the damage would cost over £2000 to fix and also that the likes of "Dent Devils" would not be able to do it.

After several members, (including myself) had convinced you to give Dent Devils a go at fixing the damage you found out that the repair only cost £50.

(You described your car as "Mint" following the repair.)

Whilst I totally agree with you that money is tight at the moment, I feel that you have made a bit of a drama out of a crisis.

With regards to your comment: "Would you be impressed if I walked by you car one night and kicked your door and would you just pay for the damage and forget about it? Some how I think when the shoe is on the other foot the answer is NO."

I must tell you that I am currently persueing a claim for approximately £150 when a "gentleman" reversed his car into my bumper in a car park.

The difference with my claim is that I have at all times been in full communication with the miscreant and that it has been very civilised.

I am sorry that your problem has not been so easily solved and wish you luck in a satisfactory conclusion

When I first found the damage I suspected a £500 + repair bill due to the creases, A friend of mine has a body shop and he even said the dents will be no problem for a dent guy but I cant see the creases coming out (1 crease was approx 12" long the other crease about 5" long). Now if I had to have the door repaired i would have pushed to try and get a brand new replacement door due to the age of the car and not wanting to see any ripple marks in the paint etc that can be sometimes seen when filler is used, that is why I said could be £2000 of damage as im sure a door from Toyota would not be cheap.

Now I have come this far as I had reported the damage when I suspected approx £500+ to fix, I would be a fool to let it drop. The women who did this damage did not contact me so as I promised I have just contacted the solicitor and passed her details on and will now push for a prosecution etc. I think she thinks saying I was not there will get her off but 10 minutes of CCTV footage will reveal all and this fact will in the end cost her a lot of money with points on her licence and lost no claims bonus.

Update,

The police have just spoke to me, they have received the witness statement (for the other party who damaged my car) which they say they are unhappy at so have viewed the cctv again and spoke to the security guy who did a report and statement and will be contacting the women’s (who damaged my car) local police force to get them to interview her for failure to report and leaving the scene of an accident with the intent of carrying this on with a prosecution depending on the outcome of the interview.

Result very happy at this and has taken a long time, I bet she wish she had taken my other to pay for the damage now.

Since the above has happened I have spoken to her again but she still refuses to pay for the damage, silly women the police are now going to prosecute and I have been advised this normally carries 6 points and a fine over £200. If and once i get a successful prosecution the solicitor will have no problems getting the funds from her insurance company.

As you can see the door looks fine now but to say it had a 12" crease from under the window down through the panel line with a dent at the top and bottom and a 5" crease going the other way the dent guy did an amazing job.

Fantastic News Rick, I can understand exactly where you're coming from. I hope she gets the full 6 points etc. Are you still claiming for all your expenses during this? I hope you are and you get them :)

Really pisses me off that I have to park my car as far away from other cars as possibly in carparks, just to discourage anyone parking near me. Far too many little scratches and what not seem to appear if I don't. Mother and baby bays really ***** me off (and I don't care if any of you disagree) my mother never had the use of them, and it's a choice to have kids. I choose to have a nice car, so where's my "extra wide bays for people with nice cars" eer bays? :P

When this happened my car was parked on its own away from other cars but 1 hour later the car park had filled up with cars parked either side

As for the mother and baby bays I agree 100% but have thought of buying a baby seat to throw on the back seat, the problem being is over the last 15years cars have got wider but parking bays have not, its about time that their was a law passed on the size of these.

I know how frustrating other drivers can be :ffs: hard luck Rick

To be honest you got off light, last January my mother bought a 08 auris

parked it in a car park came back roughly an hour later and what a shock she got

Rear Passenger side impact, back bumper dented back door wrecked! alloy wheel buckled and useless!!!!!!!!!!Rear quarter panel

had to be cut out and replaced

Driver of the Transit decided to drive off luckily for her a local fella saw it happen and

followed the guy home took his reg and address and gave it to the police :D :D Turns out he hit her with his bull bars

plus he was totally wasted

Oh yeah forgot to mention there was only 500miles on the clock

Not being funny but it could always be worse

glad your getting a result out of this.

more action needs to be taken with people like this.

i have a lease car from work which i keep for 1 year at a time. as they are resold through toyota networks they have to be mint when they go back.

any damage has to be paid for by me (even down to chipped windscreens have to be replaced, no repairs)

just took my T-Spirit auris back and had to pay £174 becaus of careless p*^&ks in car parks. there was a dent in the drivers front door (£40) about 3-4" down from the glass (must have been one of thos idiots that feel the need to take a huge 4X4 shopping!!!) and what appear to be scuffs on the rear bumper(£133.77) where someone has parked to close.

as fro parent and child bays i agree with them. think about it if every one thought "oh look a nice wide bay, ill park in that" then mums with children would have to park in the "normal" spaces. dont know if your aware but getting children strapped into the back of a car isnt always easy. its very easy to catch your door and it to hit the car next to you. i have kids but if they arnt in the car i dont use PnC spaces cos i know how pi**^d i get when i have the kids in and see some tw@( park in one in his BMW get out with no kids in tow.

all it needs is for people to park consideratly and leave eaqual room either side. times ive had to get in the car from the passenger side cos some 'tard has parked right up to the drivers side.

Carpark spaces are 2.4m x 5.5m so they can cram more in . I build them for a living, its all about the numbers.

Very true but with todays wider cars they should be 2.6m x 5.5m and thats the problem

Simple, anyone with kids clearly has too much time on their hands, so they are legally restricted to only be allowed to shop at 24hr stores between the hours of 0000Hrs to 0600Hrs. Also stops me from having to hear/see screaming kids, needy kids, whiney kids, spoilt kids, grumpy kids and also jarated off parents, yelling parents, grumpy parents, stupid parents and just general kids/parent combinations. However, should said parent wish to shop without said off spring during the non-restricted times, this is fine. Following the natural order of things, this shouldn't be a problem for the shopping parent.

Only the parents who can afford kids without the need for tax benefits and extra wide parking spaces, because you know, kids aren't an easy or cheap ride and in this day and age there is no need to have kids to keep the human race alive. You will need to pass a simple exam and obtain an licence for this.

The above will free up X amount of car parking spaces during normal people hours which means larger bays can "installed" for people who choose to have nice cars.

  :P ;)

People with kids need bigger spaces as you will notice 30% of them seem to have big 4x4's ;)

Exactly! So when the parents/kid combination is shopping between the hours of 0000-0600, they can make use of the already widen bays, thus no longer needing parent/toddler bays and I dont get my car hit my anyone.

It's win win. :D
