yes its been asked many times, just checked my oil and it is on the low mark on the dip stick, ive had it a 1 year and 3 months now and this is the first time it has moved.

could they be a problem ? no oil leak on drive or maybe its just being used up normally if they is such a thing lol

anyways how much oil do i need to do an oil change ? im looking at the following

Mobil 1 0w-40

Castrol GTX fully synthetic 10w-40

both of these will be fine for the car yes ? and how much will i need to buy ?

quick reply would be nice as im off out in a sec lol

Provided its no lower than low you should be ok (for a few miles) provided you don't go hammering around the bends and having the revs up high, personally i would go to the petrol station and buy a litre and put some of that in.

Out of interest how long since your last oil change and what miles are are you on at the mo?

dont jhave a clue when it last had oil change im guessing it hasnt it didnt have a service when it was meant to, i baught the car at 15k miles its now 22k, should have had service at 20k. im ordering a oil filter now and some new oil, i aint driving the car till it is in the garage (monday)

I think it actually swallows 4.6Litres as there's barely anything left in my 5Litre bottle of Mobil 1 0W-40.

Dont forget the service interval is 10k or 12mths, oil degrades over time as well as mileage. :)

Its nothing at all to worry about, mine uses a bit and i know 3 CTS owners and they all use oil. Mine is an 02 reg, the others 04,05 and 06. Funny though, it hasnt seemed to use any of the toyota oil for some reason since ive had it serviced 3k ago.

Just keep it topped up. I wouldnt be driving it far with the oil near the low mark, stick a litre bottle of magnetec in it until you get it serviced.

I havent heard of a fully synthetic 10w40 GTX Castrol oil??? GTX Magnetec 10w40 is Semi, 5w30 is fully and normal GTX is mineral (dont put a mineral oil in the CTS!) I use 10w40 semi synthetic (genuine toyota motor oil) which the local dealer recommends. Millers XSS is also good stuff. They both come in 5ltr containers and are around the £15 mark.

Also keep an eye on your coolant level!

The original plugs don't need to be changed until 60k miles, shouldn't be any need to replace yours. You need to get Iridium plugs, looking at around £30 - £40 for 4.

Chances are they won't make any difference as they are designed to last for 6yr/60k, its much more important to change the oil freqently on a car that revs so high! If not the oil could go thick leading to oil starvation and then you will need a new engine! It would be a good idea to use engine flush when changing the oil to get any *****e out of it.

im getting the engine oil changed at the garage so im sure they will know what to do, the engine cant have starved yet as i still have oil in ( low mark on the dip stick ) and i aint dorve the car since i checked, so i will be ok yes ? ill give the spark plugs a miss then

Its likely to be ok, it shouldn't have starved on the min level. What colour is your oil at the mo, if its still a touch of golden brown and not black then all should be well.

how long did you leave the car before you checked the oil? bare in mind it takes about 10 minutes for it to drain back.
