Drivers Seat Won't Slide Forward When Folded Down

Hi all, just bought my first Yaris and picked it up today.

It's a 2004 1.3 T-spirit and it's in immaculate condition, a really lovely car.

Unfortunately i've got two teensie little issues. I'll post the first one here as I couldn't find anything similar in search.

The car is a 3-door. Something I hadn't checked on the test drive was the drivers seat. When you flip it forward to let a passenger in the back, the seat won't slide forward. The passenger seat works fine.

The drivers seat back happily flips forward and back when you pull the lever, and the main front-back adjustment works ok when you're sitting in the seat. Is this a common fault or something anyone else is aware of? I'm hoping it will be something simple like a broken cable.

It's not the end of the world, it just means I have to pull my seat forwards before flipping the back down and letting people in, but there's nothing worse than discovering these little niggles so soon after buying a car. Let's hope these are the only ones!

TIA

Hi

This is standard on all 3 door Yaris, don't ask me why but our 2000 is the same and I know of three others and they are all the same.... probably some health and safety cr*p...

Yep, as above this is how they are - only passenger seat slides forward when back tilted.

Hi there the drivers seat will not slide forward like the passenger seat so that passengers only get out on the pavement side for safety and dont get out in front of traffic,it is annoying tho if you have gotten used to another car that both seats flip but you do get used to it eventually

cheers phil

Thanks for all the replys folks.

While I was giving the car the once over earlier, I stuck my head underneath the seats and saw the mechanism which allows the seat to slide when folded on the passenger side. Wonder if you could retro-fit that from a LHD car's passenger side seat?

  • 11 years later...

Hi and many thanks to all those responses from 2009.

I've just bought a 2011 3 door Yaris (I've never had a 3 door before), but was very concerned about exactly the same issue,  ie the back of the driver's seat flips forwards (using the lever on the side of the seat back), however, the seat itself will not slide on the runners towards the steering wheel.  Passenger seat flips and slides forwards no problem (and that is the one I tried before purchase).

I presume this remained the issue in 2011.......

On some three door cars, it is common for only the front passenger seat to fold forwards and slide - basically it is to encourage rear seat passengers to exit on the passenger/pavement side of the car rather than the drivers/road side.
