I have a 3 door Rav4 NRG 2 litre 51 Reg. Today I have noticed the MIL lamp come on.....................Panic!!! After a few rounds on the internet I disconnected the Battery for 30 minutes, reconnected & hey presto the MIL has gone.............5 minutes into driving its back on! Can anyone help? I'm taking it to a garage tomorrow to find out the fault-I'd like a bit of "It could be's" before I go.

Many Thanks

P

Hi

It could be..... anything... that light indicates a stored fault code, there are hundreds in could be, if the car drives OK and is not missing etc then chances are it is just a dirty pickup somewhere.....

Good Luck, let us know what it was

Pete

Have a look here and see if there is a member near you who can read the code, then you can post back with the details and get the advice you need.

It could be absolutely anything tbh.

Looking at the age of your RAV I bet its one of the oxygen sensors, they last about 80,000 miles on average. Not a big job and about £65 from the tinternet.

Where are they located? I bought an OBD Tool & reset the light. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it becomes a constant fault. Many Thanks for the responses.................greatly appreciated.

The ODB tool will give you the code to the exact one that needs replacing, but there are 4 of them, 2 at the top of the exhaust manifold reachable from above and 2 after the CAT from underneath just below the radiator.

You basically just unscrew them but you can buy a special socket which has a cut out for the wires. Some on the site have done it with an adjustable!

I don't know prices or part Nos but if you refer to the above post and pm the relevant owner I'm sure they will advise you.

Good luck mate.
