Possible Spoiler Swap?

Hi,

Just joined the forum seeking advice. My girlfriend has been looking for a celica coupe for some time but is struggling to find one that ticks all the boxes.

Believe its a 'Gen 7' she is looking for, one of the later ones 2005 or there abouts.

We have noticed that there are different types of spoiler available, and the one that she is looking for is this one: http://www.ukcar.com/road_tests/toyota/toy...ear.Spoiler.jpg

We have found a celica for sale which is almost perfect but has the other type of spoiler fitted (think its called the TTE type?)

My question is, is it easy to remove one and fit the other type or are the mountings different?

Thanks in advance,

Alan.

The spoiler in the picture is a T-Sport spoiler, and is bolted on.

The TTE spoiler is bonded on, no bolts.

Paul is correct. The TTE Spoiler as fitted to the Celica "Style" is clipped on at either end with adhesive used to secure the centre. If you want a T Sport Spoiler, let me know as I have a genuine Toyota (brand new still boxed) one available :)

Thanks for the replies...

Ideally if we get the car I would like to remove the TTE spoiler and replace it with the T Sport one.

Couple more questions...

i) Would it be possible to remove the TTE without any damage to the paint work? i.e. would there be marks on the paint where the clips used to be at the sides? and is it possible to remove the adhesive from the centre without the need for a respray?

ii) Could I for the T Sport spoiler with adhesive only? Dont fancy drilling into the tailgate. I remember using a product called tiger seal years ago which was very good.

Cheers,

Alan.

i) I think it would be a case of crossing your fingers as regards the clips marking the paintwork. I'm confident however, the adhesive from the centre could be removed fairly easily without needing a respray.

ii) Sorry but this is a definite No, the area at the bottom of the three legs would not be big enough to affix the Spoiler securely with either Tiger Seal or Sikaflex.

So it's a Maybe, Yes and No in that order :)

Another user on celica-club had their rear spoiler bonded on by a dealer (NJAY) when he went remove there were no holes.

Although i personally would not trust silkaflex only bonding the spoiler as it is quite heavy.

My spoiler was bolted and bonded on....

Another consideration are you boot struts.. i am not sure if cars with the TTE ones come with the uprated ones... the easies way to check will be to look at them and see if they have "SP" written on them.. otherwise you may find your boot lid falling down on your head winter!

I'm pretty sure a TTE Spoiler equipped Gen 7 does come with the "SP" Hatch Struts, so you should be OK there :)
