Hard To Change Gears

I've a 2000 celica 1.7. It became hard to get into gear unless the clutch was fully pressed down, and it would crunch into reverse. The clutch pressure plate was tired with no "snap over", just the same pedal pressure for the whole travel. I have had a new clutch fitted, which is now much lighter and has proper "snap over". However I still have to press the clutch fully down to engage gear and I can feel the car trying to inch forward with the clutch down. I recall when I was a mechanic that the clutch fork on some cars could crack and give these symptoms, is this a know fault with Celicas?

Yep, if you've had the clutch changed and it's still biting when going into gear (ie still giving a little drive from the engine) then you need to get it looked at.

Perhaps make sure the hydraulic system on the clutch has been bled properly to allow the slave cylinder etc to settle.

Oh, and it's a 1.8 ;)

Sounds like a bent fork to me as you suspect. A slave cylinder fault should pump up.
