Damsel In Distress!

Hi

I have a 1997 Corolla GS which is currently sat immobilized on my driveway. The alarm started going off every five minutes on Saturday so I went out and locked it with the key to stop the alarm wailing at nothing. On Sunday I unlocked the car and it wouldn't start, kept making a beeping noise when I put the key in the ignition, so i pressed the fob buttons to see if that would help and it didn't. Have tried a new Battery in the fob but that hasn't helped either. My local Toyota man is now saying that it will be very expensive to fix - an expense I'm desperately trying to avoid as I'm getting a new car (Yaris) in the middle of February!

I don't claim to know anything about cars but am wondering if the fob needs synching or if there is anything else I can try?

Any help gratefully received!

Nally x

My tuppence worth & probably of no use to you :(

I had a Renault Kangoo van, & through very frequent use, the wiring from the driver's door to the central locking unit would break about once a year. Normally that meant that the Driver's door wouldn't lock or unlock with the key fob. The last time, however, the wires must have been touching, & when I tried to unlock it the door wouldn't open (muttered curses) & when I tried to start her, she'd turn over freely but wouldn't fire. The broken wires blew the fuse to the immobiliser. I got the wires fixed for the umpteenth time, & away we went, no worries.

Hope this helps, but I'm sure that the mechanic would have caught that, if it was the problem.

BTW, the van was not alarmed, so didn't scream @ me :D
