Mk2 Factory Security System...

I have had another thought on the other half's MR2 woes... (Actually I lie someone on the M3 forum suggested it) Does anyone know anything about the factory imobilisers? I assume they work by disableing the fuel pump? Is ita common failure on these?? (I know after market ones cause all sorts of greif in general)
