Lift Bolts - Removing Broken Bits - Help!

Hiya, just changing the lift bolts on my 190 T Sport. The front one (intake) has broken in two (usual place just where the thread ends). Is there an easier way to get the bottom half out without stripping the whole lot down?

Tried a magnetic screwdriver - no good, tried the hoover - no good !

I have two ideas -

1. will it come out easier if you turn the engine & cam shalfts to a certain position ?

2. my neighbour is thinking of drilling down the middle of an old 6mm bolt, so that we could use it as a guide to drill the other one out carefully i.e. not damage the threads in the head.

did you get anywhere with this? surely you could use a reverse threaded bolt extractor?
