Hey all.

Im ordering my IQ on Friday, has anyone else ordered one yet?! Im sooooo excited!!!

Im going for the optional pack of Spoiler, Rear Skirt and Exhaust so im hoping it doesnt delay it too much. Not ordered a brand new car before so quite an experience for me!

Loved the test drive, although all the dealers have Automatics for the test drive, wheras im gonna be ordering a manual so i hope that it is as good as the rest of the car! Had a Smart Fortwo before and IMO the IQ is everything that the Smart Car should have been...

Well i will keep you updated with my order :D

I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and apparently the boat that brings them to the UK arrived yesterday, or the day before, so my dealer should be getting it soon.

Then all the DVLA/insurance time wasting stuff begins!

Like you I am really looking forward to it...I have had new cars before but never so distinctive, or so full of goodies!

Good luck with your ordering, hope it is a pleasant experience, mine was.

What colour have you gone for? Im so excited, just wish i had ordered sooner!

Posted

We went for white.."she who must be obeyed" would normally have chosen black (most of her outfits are black, etc) but we both agreed, for us ( and I stress for us only) the white made the car look more substantial than the black which was parked nearby.

Other people will think the reverse and I appreciate that.

The white also seemed to have a lovely deep pearly finish which we liked. and the depth of finish wasn't so apparent on the black, to us.

THe "purply" painted iQ wasn't available to look at, but I doubt it would have appealed to us in our advanced years!

Whatever colour you chose will be the correct one for you, so enjoy it when it arrives!

Well I've already decided I want white, just cos of the pearlescent, but I just wish there was one of the dark purple ones to see in the flesh too because you cant tell from a small square that they have on the wall in the dealers what its like.

Everyone is gonna go for white though i imagine! But oh well...

Have you been getting insurance quotes? Not many companies will quote on the IQ especially on the comparison websites. But when you go direct they do. Although been getting really high quotes but I guess as its so new they cant base the premium on previous owners experience/claims etc like they do with other cars. Got a good quote eventually though :)

Pictures we love pictures on here.... Love to actually see one actually owned by some one... only seen them at Motor Show and dealer garages....

Parked next to a Black one in Halfords(Redhill), preferred the white one I saw in the showroom when I went to look at them but I actually think I would get another Aygo .

Fine for just 2 people or someone who can get away with -out carrying stuff in the boot.

Sorry to all who are buying them, I went looking at having one as a second car but was disapointed. They look Great but I personally would have issues with the space.

Posted

Thats ok, its obviously not gonna be for everyone!!

On the test drive my partner sat in the back the whole time and said it was spacious enough (he is not the smallest of men!). I never really carry more than one other person but if i did at least i know i got the seats in case (not like my old smart car)

Im planning on having the rear seats folded down 90% of the time

Posted

Rang up my insurance company and informed them of the impending change of car and the lady said " you will be pleased to know it will be the same as your Aygo", so it is just a swap of vehicle details and number plate.Cost is about £110 with protected NCB.

Space wise, we dont need any more space than an iQ.

There are only two of us and although we have had a 5 door Aygo for more than 2 years, we have never carried a passenger in the back (no friends!) and the tiny Aygo boot has been big enough for our luggage for our weeks away from home on holiday, without putting stuff on the rear seat.

In the iQ, we will keep the rear seats folded down and cover the area with the toneau cover, and in that configuration there will be more than enough room for what we need the car for.

If I had a family and only one car it would obviously be a no-go as a practical car.

Well ordered today with Bryan, my friendly dealer!!

Its gonna arrive in 3-4 weeks cos i want the iSports pack (spoiler, rear skirt and exhaust) which is good because i was quoted 2-3 weeks for a standard one. Im gettin an IQ2..

Got to pop in tomorrow as i forgot my bank details for DD, doh!! But once they have those they should be able to give me a more exact date and will also be able to tell me if I can get an 09 plate yay :D

Not gonna put my private plate on for the first 6 months so I can show off my brand new car lol, how sad is that!!

I'm in the same boat here. I had a poke around and they seem very well built. Even the engine bay had a few chromed bits.

It might not be fair to compare it to an Aygo, because Mr T seems to have this aimed at the samrt car's market. I would still prefer a Iq over a smart car though, because I prefer the option to carry more than 2 people and the 700cc smart car engine has to work very hard, is slower and gets less mpg

Really pleased for you Sally and I can't wait to see the pictures.... :D

Just to clarify, all Smarts now come with 999cc Mitsubishi engines with power outputs of 61, 71, 84 and 98bhp although do have to accept that they are all pure 2 seaters. My dilema is that 95% of the time there is either 1 or 2 people in the car and I don' know if I can justify an additional 750.00 per seat for the IQ

I had a scooter for ages for the same reason, but I missed road trips with friends and family outings. Maybe look out for a second hand Iq a few months.

Hello iQ's

Just ordered my iQ2 for the 1st of march.

I'm leaving the AA to start up my own funky eco driving school in my fantastic iQ!

So lots of lucky learners will be able 2 drive this yummy car.

my first quote in 4 driving school insurance is

£320, not bad as anyone over 25 can drive it on there own + all others with me!

Does any 1 think its a good car 2 learn in?

can't wait!!!

We are still waiting for delivery of our iQ ordered on the 9th Jan..latest delay due to weather, apparently!

Anyway, arrived home today to find a packet from MrT containing a purple jewellery type container (like you would get posh rings in), and inside was a solid glass cuboid paper weight with a see-through model of an iQ inside it.

There was a personalised card with my name and the message "the wait is nearly over"

It is beautifully made and presented and can only hope the real car is as good!

Well done MrT. We are both feeling chuffed! (OK they could have taken a few pounds off the cost of the car, but we would have bought one anyway)

Nice touch !!

Ordered ours today. White iQ2. Hoping it might arrive for 1 March. Dealer should know more next couple of days. Although, your experience would suggest the possibility of a longer wait... :(

Seems that we've ordered the 4th from an allocation of only 6 to be made available 1st quarter at our dealership.

Mr T is limiting supply (which hopefully means improved residuals and of course better exclusivity !!).

Dave ;)

We have had to wait for the car transporter ship to arrive, which it did over a week ago, and then for road transport up to Scotland.

I don't know how it takes so long but trying to get progress reports from our salesperson is like asking at an airport for information about why your flight is delayed...impossible!

He can't be all that busy either!

Ours is white too hopefully, (don't want to tempt fate or it may never arrive!) and I hope yours reaches you without too much delay, Dave.

Sorry but I don't. OK for the learner as it's compact, but what about you as the owner?

Driving school cars should be cheap to buy, cheap to run and easy to fix. For all these reasons my dad has run Ford Fiesta diesels for all his 25 years of being a driving instructor - about 8 cars. Despite a few accidents (all someone elses fault) and breakdowns he's never been without his car for more than a week as the garage which can't fix a Fiesta hasn't yet been found.

How will the IQ cope with 30,000 teaching miles per year? What is spare part availability like? What if it gets bumped on week one and you need to wait 12 weeks for parts to come as the car is new? Will the clutch be up to this mileage? How much are service items? Does it have a spare wheel? Does it have dark cloth covering the seats? Is the passenger seat comfortable? What does it drive like over rough potholed surfaces? Is the boot large enough for various bits and pieces you need to carry as an instructor? The fuel tank is also very small - 33 litres less reserve won't get you many lessons. These are questions you should be asking before buying.

Dad knows a few instructors who have had the Yaris, but these are expensive to keep on the road as are the new Mini and Renault Clios.

My first post in here, hi guys and gals.

Picked up my White IQ2 yesterday, and already it's filthy with muck!

Very nice little car....I had an Aygo black before and this is in a different league altogether!

BUT.

Driving to work in the snow today, it felt much more prone to skidding than the Aygo did....not sure if that's the tires fault but I genuinely felt less safe at times! crazy.

Other than that, lovely little car (no pics yet, sorry - and it'd look horrible anyway, covered in black slush)

I love the stereo too! it's 1000x better than the Aygo's (which was my main bug bear)

Have to say I'm very impressed so far (other than the wobbliness in the slush)

Hi Brassik and welcome...

We're in a similar boat to you - replacing Aygo Blue with iQ2.

A few weeks still to wait though...

Your reporting of performance in the snow is a little disconcerting.

Were your problems experienced while braking, accelerating or during normal driving?

I expected the iQ to be as safe as you can get with all its various stability/braking controls.

Cheers

Dave

My wife is nervous enough in the snow without adding to the problems.

Cheers

Dave

I'm thinking the tyres (although they're bridgestones!) aren't up to snow driving, as even pulling out of my road was far more treacherous in the IQ! I had replacement Toyos on the Aygo, and had very little skid action so far this week.....it really shook me!

I also noticed that cabin noise from the suspension is an ungodly level when driving over compacted snow!

not sure if it's just my initial "buyer guilt" making me look for problems (I always do!) but it's been a bit of a shock after the Aygo being so niggle free.

Will wait and see if it's really an issue before contacting Toyota.

Driving on a relatively "safe" bit of road today (I say this because other cars were going faster with no apparent issues) I genuinely felt at risk for a good 5-10 seconds and actually was scared to brake.

But hey, it could just be because I'm not used to the way this car drives yet....in the test drive (in good conditions no less) I had no issues whatsoever.
