A possible reason for your problems in snow today...

The tyres could still have been 'green' and not as grippy as they should be.

Tyres normally need 'running in' for a few tens of miles to scrub the 'release agent' away. (The release agent is an oil used in the tyre mould to ensure the tyre doesn't stick when released).

Running on snow will require even more miles before the release agent is scrubbed away.

New tyres are as dangerous as old worn tyres. They will need 200/300 miles of normal driving to scrub in.

Driving to work in the snow today, it felt much more prone to skidding than the Aygo did....not sure if that's the tires fault but I genuinely felt less safe at times! crazy.

It has fatter tyres and a shorter wheelbase, so it doesn't feel as sure-footed as the Aygo in slippery conditions.

Still fun, though :D

Hello again!

Well, after my 1st day blues, I'm back to being elated! I LOVE this car.....I'm much more confident in it, and it's felt much more sure footed since yesterday's woes.

it's in a different league to the Agyo, and is proving to be a real head turner too (though one woman at work laughed at it - the heathen!)

So yeah, I agree with the above posts, it's probably due to a number of factors, but none of those being the fault of the car itself.

So glad you are reassured and happy again!

I am due to pick up mine tomorrow, all being well, and am really looking forward to it.

Yes, I am expecting the odd laugh and comments like "what is THAT!!" too, but when I first had my Aygo nearly three years ago it was much the same..nobody new what it was and it was a bit of an oddity.

Talking about Aygos, I have been talking nicely to mine, trying to explain it is time to move on and it will probably go to a much nicer owner than me, and will be much better looked after etc,etc but I dont think it is working. I am going to be very sad not to have it any more...it has been absolutely brilliant, and if the iQ is half as good I will be well pleased, as they say.

I agree....the Aygo is a fantastic car, cheap to run and ultra reliable.

for me the IQ was the obvious progression....even more eco friendly, just as cheap to run (not to buy, but that's not a bad thing as it'll ensure more exclusivity than the Aygo) and it has a much more quality feel to it....the IQ2 is defo the one to get as all those extras really make it feel special.

What colour did you go for Johnan?

Glad you're feeling happier with it today.

Also, helps make me feel more comfortable with our order for an iQ2.

Cheers...

I went for white, Brassik..there is really only the choice of two at present, and the black does not appeal so much as the white, which is so lustrous looking with the pearlescent effect.

On another tack,I had a service plan with my Aygo which I felt was a good deal, though expensive up front but apparently there isn't one yet, through Toyota, for the iQ.

They are only meant to be available to buy along with the purchase of the car, and not later, so does that mean I will not be able to take out a service plan for the iQ when it does become available?

Any experts know the answer!?

But the IQ is £2000 more than the Aygo which is 30 000 miles in petrol ( or more than once around the world ). And the Aygo is more practical.

Just arrived home after picking up our iQ2 and so far, as all the others have said who have one, I am loving it!

It feels like a large car when driving it and it hard to believe how compact it is from the outside.

It just reeks of quality, but then I am not used to luxury cars...but it will certainly do me!

There was snow and ice about on the way home so I had to be careful but it seemed nippy enough, even keeping the revs low, for me.

I was amazed to find a traction control button, and you actually have the option to switch it off!

I also was surprised to find an air compressor in the underfloor tool compartment...I was only expecting to find an aerosol can of tyre sealant goo.

One thing I haven't got to grips with is the gear shift indicator..an "up" arrow appears when it thinks you should be in a higher gear for economy ,and so far it seems to think the engine is a diesel as it wants me to change up at too low an engine speed for smooth progression.Maybe its just me, but I would be interested to hear how others have found it.

I have folded the rear seats down and covered the area with the toneau cover and there is more than enough space under the cover for anything we are likely to carry.Anything bigger and I will hire a van, or get it delivered!

For those awaiting delivery, be patient, it's worth the wait!

Glad you're enjoying your new iQ.

Trying to be patient !! Still awaiting a delivery date...

During our couple of test drives, we noticed the gear change indicator doing as you noticed. This is obviously part of the Toyota strategy to minimise fuel consumption.

could you confirm the iQ has a 12v accessory plug for sat navs and the like

Yes - accessory socket at very bottom of centre console

Wait until the engine has loosened up after 2000-3000 miles. I think then you will find it runs more smoothly at lower revs.

I would nurse the engine a little until then, maybe changing up at higher revs than the green arrows say.

Hi sally, :D

I got my IQ 2 on the 25/01/09 and loving every moment of it, and im absolutly positive you will enjoy your IQ

Its rather strange because when out driving people look at you as they have not seen any IQ's before on the road, people have asked me What is it, but im sure that will ware of after a while.

All i can say is happy motoring :yahoo:

Just back from a 50 mile shopping round trip in our new iQ2 and it was completely drama free, very comfortable and quiet and smooth on the local dual carriageway.

Lovely car!

I know it is suppoesed to be a "small" car but it certainly stands out in a supermarket car park and has quite an imposing presence, which to me, the Smart for2 never had.The iQ really is in a completely different league.

I am pleased too that I was able to get my warning triangle, first aid kit and my own emergency tool kit in the space where the iQ jack is kept under the rear "oddment box", and the box holds my fire extinguisher, rolled up toneau cover and emergency raincoats,etc...all out of sight. There is still the space under the rear seat to put things in if required.

One thing I would like feedback on:when using the trip computer in the current MPG mode (not the average) the figure never goes above 60.00mpg.I was wondering if this a limit of the gadget, because the instantaneous mpg according to a scangauge, is often in three figures when decelerating for example. If it is we will never be able to prove we have done more than that figure, other than by using a scangauge!

The best guide to how you are getting along is simply to take the reading at the petrol pump once you have clicked off. 350 miles at 7 gallons for instance can be quickly calculated and is a far better guide than electronics.

My Yaris used to show 99.9 when in neutral going down a hill so that was it's limit, but the acid test is at the pumps.

Thanks for replying Andy.

I am happy with the calculations etc and I am calibrating my "ex-Aygo" scangauge for the iQ now..I just wondered if I have a faulty trip computer in the iQ that may need checked, or it is normal not to exceed 60.00mpg in the instantaneous readout.

I will try again tomorrow anyway.

Hi John.

No idea on the limitation, not sure why they have reduced it from 99 to 60 when two digits should give the bigger amount with ease. Just keep it at 60 as much as you can and you will be ok. Don't get too carried away with watching it though, often take your eyes off the road for too long when you do that :D

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Went to Mr T today and had a sit in an iQ2. It appears very wide from the outside. The steering wheel is nice and I like the silver effect dash. Lots of space in the front and with the seats down it appears there isn’t much difference to the Yaris boot (the one with the false floor)

A smart looking car and I can see why people are starting to fall in love with it

Don't know how to, unfortunately...i've read about having to join a hosting service or something which all seemed a bit complicated, so didn't bother.

My car looks remarkably like the ones in the brochures, if anyone wants a rough guide to its appearance!
