2000 Corolla Liftback - Backup Alarm Battery

Car is making 16 beeps when i try to lock or unlock the car. Car locks ok (along with the beeps) but after an intermittent amount of time the alarm goes off. I have read in the forum that it may be the alarm backup Battery or an alarm sensor causing this. Im guessing that it is the backup Battery and was going to try and troubleshoot this first. Has anyone replaced the backup Battery before? Can you fit a new battery back or do you have to replace the whole siren unit?
