Few Questions About Getting Your Car Seviced

the reasond for this is my 08 plate is 1 year old in march yet ive only done 4k in it and not much by the time march comes. is it really worth while getting it serviced?it would only be a one off.would intend to get it done every year after that.its just with its low milage. pros and cons would be appreciated.

Do you check:

the brake pipes/all rubber boots on the balljoints for damage?

Oil should be changed more regularly if you do low mileages due to the build up of moisture not burnt off by long journeys.

(For example , my wife has a Peugeot 106 diesel owned from new 16 years old having done 46,000 miles. I service it every year.. If I followed the service intervals it would have had 7 services!)

I change my Yaris oil and filter every year as my annual mileage is only 7k... and I inspect it underneath at the same time.

Safety alone says an annual check makes sense.

Toyota service schedules are usually "x amount of miles or 1 year. Whichever comes first"

Having it serviced adds to piece of mind and keeps the service history for when you come to sell it.

If your Yaris is on a 12mth/10k service interval and you dont service it then the warranty will be voided, also as mentioned anything could be going on underneath and you wouldn't have a clue.

Bear in mind its classed as "intermediate" service at 10,000 miles/12-months so it should only be about £100 - shop around for the best deal. It's worth mentioning that you don't have to get it serviced at Toyota, you can choose a "Toyota Approved Servicing Centre" instead, which maintains your warranty but should be much much cheaper - there is a list on Toyotas website.

Hi Servicing your car is not a legal requirement, it is purly up to the owners personal preference.

You say your car is 1 yr old in march manufactures say that you dont need to service your car until it has done 9000 miles or is 2years old from brand new. In my opinion if you can service it yourself it wont cost you much and is worth it for piece of mind, however if your paying for a garage to do it i wouldnt bother as it will not benifit the car enough for the price you pay for a garage service. hope this helped. (some main dealers will not service a car until it is 3years old)

That's incorrect. The Yaris servicing schedule is (whichever comes first):

10,000 miles or 12 months (Intermediate)

20,000 miles or 24 months (Full)

30,000 miles or 36 months (Intermediate)

and so on and so forth. If Lucie does not keep to this schedule she could void her warranty. After the 3 years warranty is up she can choose to not continue servicing but that could affect the value of her car if she came to sell.

She is better off servicing than not servicing with a year-old-car.

You are incorrect, you do need to service your car before its 2yrs old if the manafacturers warranty says you do or you wont have a warranty anymore. What do you mean some dealers wont service a car until its 3yrs old? Do you think they just park it in the corner and charge you for the privilege? Its very unlikely in the modern world.

In the service book that the cars come with from new, it says in there that you do not have to have it done just by Toyota...anywhere can do it but the parts must be genuine Toyota parts...if not then they wont deal with issues under warranty that arise from those parts.

have booked the car in with mr T, kwickfit gave me a quote of £80 so rung up toyota and they offered me it for £90 so for the extra £5 split between 2 pf us who pay for it i thought it might aswell stick with the dealership and not have to worry about geniune parts and all that. i asked toyota if thats all in and they said yes parts labour vat. but obviouisly if it needed a new blub for example thats xtra. its along time since i had my first yaris serviced so whats actually included in the price. i dont want to be getting any little shocks when they give me the bill if u get my drift. as im not a fan of my delearship but considering the price i thought i might aswell take it there. cant seem to see anytihng on toyotas site about whats included in the first service. seems to be just an oil/filter change at other garages ive looked at and everything else gets checked.

Having it serviced at regular intervals by the dealer could prevent hefty bills in the future due to poor maintenance.

You work hard to pay for your car so it’s false economy to compromise on the service.

Also keep in mind the safety aspect, you wouldn’t want to be driving at 70mph along the motorway for some major mechanical failure to happen, you also have to consider your family/passengers and other road users

Here is the correct information

Having a service is NOT a legal requirement, however your car must always be in a legal roadworthy condition (Having your windscreen washers freeze up in the cold weather because you didnt put enough screenwash in your bottle is YOUR resposibility)

You DO NOT have to go to a Toyota dealer to get your car serviced, however it MUST BE serviced in accordance with Toyota's service schedule, failure to have it serviced in accordance with the manufacturers reccomendations MAY void your warranty

EXAMPLE 1: You service the car yourself and use a cheap motor factor oil filter, the engine seizes up, Toyota MAY reject your claim, if it could be shown you didnt follow the manufacturers instructions

EXAMPLE 2 You service the car yourself, and buy your genuine oil filter and oil from www.lindoptoyota.co.uk :D: (as you do!) Your engine seizes up and it is found the Toyota oil filter is at fault, you would be covered

HOWEVER, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, and often overlooked. When the car goes out of warranty you buy a part over the counter and fit it yourself or get a local Fred in the shed garage to fit it, you can only claim for the part only. You will get NO labour charges recovered, so lets say you buy a new starter motor, the part is covered for 12 months parts AND labour IF fitted in a Toyota dealer, if you get Fred in the shed to fit it, you CANNOT claim any labour charges to fit a new starter, so getting repairs and services done at your dealer does have benefits that people seldom think of
