hi there, i'm new to this so any help is much appreciated. i've just bought my 1st supra, its a 1990 2.0 twin turbo and it was imported into the uk in 1997 from japan. there is a small rectangular red button to the right hand side of the base of the gear shifter, it has a sticker next to it but unfortunately i don't read japanese. i can't see any obvious indicator light on the dashboard to correspond with pushing the button. can anyone tell me what it does please? :help:

Is your car an automatic  if so do you have to put your foot on the brake before you can shift it out of 'P'

If the answer is 'Yes' to both questions then this is a manual unlock button to allow you to move your shift out of 'P' without starting the car and putting your foot on the brake. Give it a try.... push the button down and see if the shift will come out of park

Now saying all this I am probably totally wrong on all counts  ;)

It's also been covered MANY times if you use the "search" feature.

Spot on Steve - it's the Gearlever interlock release !

Blimey  .... that makes a change for me to get something correct

'Gearlever interlock release'.... I knew it would have a name but there was no way I would remember it, I put my bad memory down to being old :wheelchair:

Kerzy.... I hope you enjoy the car
